Waived: Jimmy Vesey - Claimed by Canucks

Hey guys, can you guys give us a little bit of a scouting report on him?

We have probably the worst bottom six in the entire league right now, lots of injuries.

From just small glances, he did not seem that bad.

Thanks

With the offence we have on first and second lines, I think the third and fourth should be players that are either really good defensively or decent defensively but really nasty and hard to play against. Vesey wasn't really either.

Not a liability.

Not super fast but good mobility.

Not super big but good size.

Not super tough but solid.

Not much of a creator but knows where to go and how to finish.

Solid defensively.

Looked fine on the PK.

Mostly invisible in both good and bad ways.

Low motor, good not great on the PK. Many leaf fans hoped he would be more of what he was with the Rangers and less of what he was will Buf.
For me he fell into the middle.
Feel he was given a lot of rope and should of been part of the rotation of guys battling for a spot.

I get Leafs waiving Vesey; I don't get nucks picking up vesey lol

would piss me off though if nucks traded him for a pick as a depth player to one of US teams though lol

What zeke said .. Considering your injuries he'll be a nice addition. Won't hurt you defensively (often) but won't wow you offensively or on the forecheck. Pretty vanilla in that respect.

He seemed a bit sleepy. We already have a guy like that as our number one goalie. The NHL is so fast and competitive now, coaches want to drain every ounce of energy, a player has, night in and night out. Vesey's motor, just doesn't have that kind of horse power.

Perfect summation in my opinion. I'll miss calling him Vichy but not much else.

Vancouver is not forward heavy and few of their btm6 are worst than Versey. Having said that, I find it funny that Canucks will pick him up since their owners turn off the money tap.

Damnit.

I guess this means we are keeping that Marner kid, right Dregs???

No big loss and nothing unexpected here. Would rather give Agostino more opportunities.

Not sure how excited the team is that he was claimed. Obviously they know the risks and we do have 3-4 other forwards who could come into the lineup and do the same (and probably more) than Vesey did.

This means more Petan, Boyd, Anderson and maybe Galchenyuk.

I think he was claimed by Vancouver to flip at the deadline for a 4th or 5th round pick.
He'd be an upgrade at a palatable cap hit (pending UFA too ) for a team with a weak bottom 6 that needs someone who isnt a glaring liability.

Imagine if a scientist created the most vanilla player possible in a lab but accidentally made him incredibly nervous at all times. Could be a legit top line complementary player if someone figures out how to give him a killer instinct.

No one is giving up assets to acquire Vesey.
