Harvard education and absolutely no smarts, can't figure out how to play the game effectively.
All the tools and no toolbox.

Some guys will never have it as it is hard to learn ... it is not a Harvard thing at all ... some kids have it at 5 before they know how to shoot ... hockey iQ is hard to measure but you know it da 1st time a kid plays a game ... one kid i can think of like this is Dylan Strome ... it can be developed but when you have it in spades it can help guys more than pure speed alone as some people think game through 3-5 plays before others do like Gretz who was a weak skater too

It’s never a Harvard thing .....
I’ve always called it a nuanced gift in anything you do , in this case hockey ...
Great point about Gretzky , of course
You gotta have it or you don’t
The good , very good and elite all have it with varying degrees ..
And some have it for lower tiers but not in the pros ?
It’s not speed , agility , hard shot , and more , that helps for sure
The minors have always been and still littered with players that don’t have “ it”
Your sooooo right !

I think a Harvard education is less impressive than it once was. The main thing it has is prestige and people chase after that more than anything else, even if they are going into a program which is far worse than some other, less prestigious schools. That makes it far more difficult to get in for an average joe. That is why you need high grades and a bunch of extra stuff, although that doesn't necessarily mean you are smart (you can probably find more stupid Harvard kids than any other high end school outside of the Ivy League, because Ivy League thrives on connections too).

If you are an athlete like Vesey, you do not even need to be the smartest of kids. You still need solid grades (which is not nearly as hard to obtain as it once was) and not a total idiot but 80% of kids who apply to play on Harvard's varsity programs get admitted into the school (keeping in mind that just because you apply and get accepted does not mean you pick the school, so the acceptance rate is probably higher than that). Turns out being really great at a sport is just the kind of thing they like as "extra stuff" to get into those schools.

Took enough time. I thought he would wash out earlier when he was signed but the team was a bit too optimistic. Who thought he would get line 2 time?
