It also could be possible that he thought he was taking one drug but it was mixed with another which he had no idea about. It’s pretty common actually.

We need some kind of treatment to get these guys away from fentanyl. Something else to ease them off or help with the problem. I have lost so many kids I grew up with to this shit. Big pharma crated This problem. We need a Legal solution

IMO some of these should only be for the terminally ill. Hospice, etc..
Those in need as they transition from life.

Otherwise, to me, far too dangerous.
I had Oxy prescribed as I recovered from a pretty bad car accident. I had broken bones. I found that within just 5 days I like it too much.
Now in the 70s and 80s I did a lot of stuff. But nothing like that stuff.

I can see how one if using prescription pain killers for a reason then no longer have it available will find another way. Fentanyl is being used to make cocaine more potent on the streets. Any whackadoo in their apartment are playing pharmacist.

Some poor bastard has no idea what they are getting. Just need the fix.
I lost my cousin Paul that way a few years ago.
Its everywhere.

Read a story that fentanyl is being masked as things like xanax and other colorful gel cap like pills as well as in gummy form.

Lots of warnings about the gummies with Halloween coming up.

The girl who sat behind me in homeroom all 4 years in high school died from a cocaine/fentanyl combo a few years ago

The "junkie" comment is unfortunate. Fentanyl doesn't care about your standing in the community or your worth to society. Once is all it takes. One time. For those of us who take life ODAAT, we know one drink, one snort, one jab and it could be over.

Not one addict I've ever met in rehab, homeless shelters, halfway houses, missions, etc ever envisioned they'd be an addict. Please call someone, reach out, please.

Most everyone I have ever known who has been addicted to narcotics, including family and friends, are truly good people who got addicted taking them via prescription, but then developed an addiction that they couldn't shake. It's obviously a huge problem in every region of the country and cuts across all socioeconomic groups. The medical community and society need to do better when it comes to this issue.

I find it odd to want to reduce stigmatization and then use the word “junky” to say he wasn’t a junky, but other people are.
His father said he didn't want people to call or think of his son a junkie, which is what people in the city call addicts.

He's speaking to everyone but also letting the neighborhoods know that calling him one is not true.

Incredibly sad all over again. The opioid epidemic can touch anyone anywhere. An absolute devastating shame. Hall of Fame human being. Hall of Fame family.

So sad because it’s the result of an almost unstoppable cycle that is so common to so many.

You play sports as a kid, probably because your parents or older siblings are fans.

You start to like it, so you play more, play harder and find out that you’re good..

You do the commendable thing…..you work hard, improve, prove to be a good teammate, catch a break or three and end up going pro.

Here your life is supposed to gain the benefits of all of your hard work and effort.

For a few years you make more money per year than 97% of the worlds people and this should set you and your family up for life,

You have money in the bank and opportunities most don’t.

Even when your playing career ends, you have the money to start a new business or buy a franchise that will sustain your family for a long time. Or you can coach, GM, scout, run camps….things that allow you to continue in the game you love.

Your kids get to go to the best schools, attend the best camps and probably have the athletic genes that will give them a better than even chance to carve out their own career.

Then you get hurt.

You’re tough, so you try to play through it…like a man should.

But it gets worse, the pain increases and because you don’t want to let your team, family and maybe even the fans down, you take the shot or take the pill.

It works at first. It’s easy and keeps you in the game.

But then something happens…the injury heals, but your body tells you that you still need the pill because of how it makes you feel.

But as time wears on, 2, 4 and then 10 pills a day aren’t enough so you try something stronger…probably something the team doctor can’t or won’t give you.

Within days or weeks, you’re hooked and based on statistics you’re now more likely to be a victim of this affliction than a survivor.

All because you first developed a love for sports….which is among the saddest things ever.

this. I chalk it up to grief, make no mistake about it - but it’s as denigrating a term as there is and it needs to be f***ing abolished. I hate the word junkie

You know your depression is acting up when seeing the word junkie brings you to the edge of tears

my buddy hung himself as a result of his addiction. I’d go to prison for a long time if someone reduced him to such an ugly word

f*** anyone who uses that word

edit: sorry, not the place. This place is for jimmy

I understand…but kinda like you I attribute it in Kevins case as grief and now learning from it.

Things here, like most places, are terrible right now.
Picture and story just few days ago in Boston.

An addiction and mental health tent city has sprung up.
Its just heartbreaking. At least for me and my kids. We’ve all lost someone in just the last few years.

Mass and Cass is just awful and no one has a clear plan to get these people help and make that area better.

Yeah, but so much of the industry, especially law enforcement/criminal justice, has operated under the assumption that the individual is to blame. The individual is weak. The individual has a moral failing.

Meanwhile, anyone with a shred of empathy and compassion realized that it isn't really the case.

Garbage!

How many lives do they save every day along with fire departments using Narcan on the spot? Keep shiting on law enforcement that's working so well.
