Jim's voice is too deep and flat to inject energy and excitement into the broadcast. His voice was better suited to the game when he was younger.

Yup, the entire countries media bows down to Toronto... except for Simpson. And Healy. And Ferraro. And our local writers. Need I go on? The whining about the media biased really is laughable. Hughson is a homer, so is every other local announcer. There's biased everywhere, get over it.

"What a save by Tanev!" is one of the great hockey moments of the last decade. I thank Hughson for his homerism creating it.

He's pretty bad in that he is sort of bland or seems fake in his enthusiasm, but also I notice sometimes he pronounces names wrong or just seems off in his calls.

Whatever though there are definitely worse options. It's cool that he is the old voice of the EA NHL games at least.

Hughson's a great play-by-play guy and has as much enthusiasm as just about any announcer I've ever heard. He has the perfect announcer voice.

Hughson and Emrick are both pretty good. Gary Thorne will always be the best.

Hughsons not bad not really seeing what the OP is seeing. For me personally it's:

1. Chris Cuthbert
2. Jim Hughson
3. Mike Emrick
4. Gord Miller

Those four are the best in the game.

Also liked Gary Thorne back in the day, wish he'd come back.

I would pay a lot of money to listen to Jim Hughson read me a bed time story. He's one of my favourite voices of all time, not just in hockey. He's a great PBP guy and that's not just because I'm a Canucks fans. Though it's nice he likes the team because literally no one else in Canadian media can say something positive about Vancouver and it's been that way since like 2006.

Hughson is fine. Middle of the pack and there's nothing wrong with that. I'd take him over Romanuk every day of the week.

Hughson has worked for TSN and CBC in the past doing hockey and baseball. If you don't think he's "real talent" I'm not sure what to tell you.
Who cares? He's awful and dull as many other posters have concluded. Also, they're comparing him to Cole who has, albeit, slipped in his quality of play-by-play but most are still saying Cole is miles better and has 'excitement' in his voice compared to the bland Hughson.

Yes, I guess the video game company choice his voice since it's robotic and kinda bland....
