Jets win the Presidents' Trophy!

Yes. The playoffs are more important and The Presidents' Trophy can be seen as largely meaningless if playoff success doesn't happen. I'll disagree a little bit. I think the boys can be justifiably proud of the accomplishment, and it may help them going into the playoffs confidence wise. Hope so at any rate. It's been great for us fans as well.
But... it's extra special because of how uncomfortable this success is making the folks at TSN, Sportsnet and the NHL head office! Except for Bettman - he'll probably claim complete credit - and somehow, I kinda hate him a little less for that.

8 times a Canadian team has won the President's Trophy

Calgary - 2 ( 1987-88, 1988-89* )
Edmonton - 2 ( 1985-86, 1986-87* )
Ottawa - 1 ( 2002-03 )
Vancouver - 2 ( 2010-11, 2011-12 )
Winnipeg - 1 ( 2024-25 )

* Won Stanley Cup
Also there were less teams when the other Canadian teams won the PC ... its a lot harder to win with 32 teams than 21 teams.
Calgary (21 teams in the NHL)
Edmonton (21 teams)
Ottawa (30 teams)
Vancouver (30 teams) 117 points * record for Canadian team but they had the benefit of a mickey mouse BS schedule ... more than half of their home games the visitors played in Calagary or Edmonton the night before.
Winnipeg (32 teams)

I don't have a lot to add to what's been said. It's just been an incredibly satisfying (and surprising) season.

With the exception of Helle, we don't have any bone fide superstars, so a lot of credit has to go to the braintrust and leadership of the team: Chevy, Arniel and his handpicked coaching staff, and in the dressing room, Lowry, Morrissey and Scheifele.

Of all the aforementioned, Scheifele has surprised me the most. I didn't think he had what it took during Wheeler's reign, but he has rounded out his game, committed fully to the organization, been a good teammate and quietly carried the team as 1C all season.

The playoffs mean a lot, but, as we all know, anything can happen in 7-game series. Right now, it is time to bask in our team's success and in the peace we suddenly have in HFJetsland.

I’ve never understood the Bettman hate. Without his support, there would be no team here. Imagine if we had a commissioner from Toronto. We’d still be on the outside looking in.

Just a note 1989 Flames also had 117 points, in 80 games. And that is the last time I can recall the two best regular season teams in the NHL meeting in the Stanley Cup.

The conversation was about how Nashville hasnt done much in their history. I believe one cup and two finals. That the Jets rebuild has been much quicker as I don’t see how Selanne and Zhamnov affect how quickly or slowly the jets 2.0 has been.
There isn't one player left from Atlanta, not one. The trade tree doesn't even give you anyone, maybe Danny Zhilkin from the Bogosian trade.

We're not the Thrashers. The Thrashers were a poorly run team, and that changed from day 1 they moved here. And stopped promoting 18 year olds into the NHL.

All those names in the rafters played for the Winnipeg Jets in front of generations of fans that have continued to support the Winnipeg Jets. Throughout their history.

When you see the Jets 1.0 as separate from the Jets 2.0, what you're saying is that you believe the corporate entities mean more than the fans.

As a fan and follower right from the very start of the WHA, I can tell you with no doubt whatsoever that the Jets are the Jets, and it's a continuum from Bobby Hull through Dale Hawerchuck to Connor Hellebuyck.

Saying Dale Hawerchuck has no bearing on where the Jets are today is both [mostly] correct and utterly meaningless. You could say the same about most of the players who've played for Jets 2.0 but aren't part of the team today. Andrew Ladd? Don't see much here today that he brought. Toby Enstrom? Same thing. And the list goes on and on.

The Jets are the Jets. Full stop. Don't care what the NHL lets us hang from the banners. Ultimately, it's us that make that decision.

I don't want to an accomplishment like what the Jets just did to become a beacon for calling down other teams.

Nashville is a newer team. Started in 1998, 2 years after the Jets left. 1 year before the Atlanta Thrashers. Had to work hard to build a fanbase. They just had their first All Star inducted into the Hockey Hall of fame. They can hang the jerseys of Weber and Rinne in the rafters, but our franchise has a rich history: Hedberg, Nilsson, Hull, Sjoberg, Hawerchuk, Steen, Carlyle, Selanne and Numminen all have jerseys hanging in the rafters, with many more to come. I thought MTS Center with all the Moose banners hanging up in the inaugural years, with the Jets playing NHL hockey in the building, was tough.

Guaranteed True North will do a first class ceremony. It's an honour we may never get again.
Considering the state of the Preds they should forget about hanging new banners and just hang Trotz.

I believe when it’s a brand new roster and the only connecting thread is Dancing Gave it’s a brand new team. Pretty much how it will feel when Perfetti or whoever is the youngest player on the roster is gone.
Chevy and the staff are gone.

Obviously they did not. But Jets 2.0 didn't start from scratch either. Preds have made the final once. No Cups. Can't say that Jets have been quicker yet. Zero finals, zero Cups. Adding Jets 1.0 to the equation doesn't get any more, or fewer finals appearances for the Jets.

For me, Winnipeg Jets go back to 1972. Changing leagues doesn't affect that. A 15 year hiatus doesn't change it either. The NHL franchise moved on to Phoenix. The Jets stayed in Wpg, dormant. If I had been a fan of an NHL franchise my fan attachment would have moved to Phoenix too. But I was a fan of the Winnipeg Jets, not the NHL nor any of its franchises.

I think that there are a couple of different condos here

Someone can be married for a long time, get divorced and then remarried again and be "married" for a long combined time - even though both marriages are completely different

I think the circumstances surrounding Jets 2.0 are so opposite of 1.0 that it wouldn't be fair to compare the two of them, let alone lump them together. This version has invested ownership, an arena opened by the team, salary cap, etc...

I don't compare 1.0 and 2.0. I lump them together as a fan. Version 2.0 is more evolved and in a much better situation for the long term. That would be the case if 1.0 had managed to stay too.

Things change. They would have had a new arena. Couldn't have stayed without it. The league would have instituted revenue sharing and a salary cap, etc. It happened the way it happened. It is still a continuum to me. The 15 year hiatus is just an event on that line. As is the move from WHA to NHL.
