GDT: Jets vs Ursine beanmongering croutons TSN3 and CJOB @ 6 pm or stream it ye great coelacanth

Today I learned this:

A bear is sometimes called a "bruin" because the word "bruin" originates from the Middle Dutch word "bruun" which simply means "brown," essentially referring to the brown color of a brown bear; this term is most commonly associated with the bear character "Bruin" in the medieval fable "Reynard the Fox" where he is depicted as a brown bear.

I've been watching NHL hockey for about 100 years and I never knew this.

I have zero idea what they think but he has a clear role to fill tonight.
If Stanley is gonna go with Frederic, he'd better lead with a cheap shot beacause:

1: Frederic deserves it
2: Frederic is likely to KO him if they square up

We don't need to guess. We simply need to look at the lineup they run out game after game.

It'd be nice if he could actually fill that role, he's a pretty mid fighter. Should've called up Bauer if you wanted some pugilism

No doubt but Arnie mentioned in one of his interviews they need Stan cover for Adam while he’s gone (not the exact words but he meant they need his toughness). Stan isn’t a good fighter but he’s the best we got since trading Dillon, and with Lowry being injured so Logan will have to do. Fingers crossed big Stan fingers crossed.

Fredric is a bit hit or miss as a fighter so maybe Stan catches him on

1: an off night 🤞
2: when he is less motivated because he knows he broke the code last time we met and he concussed a non fighter. Sometimes in these types of bouts the guy who is answering goes though the motions (Now I am hoping for a miracle clearly)

I don't hate Stanley/Miller for our 3rd pair, Stan plays reasonably better when paired with Colin. Fleury should sit a few. Maybe Zadorov or Fred and Stanley butt heads, that'd be a scrap I'd pay to see.

Boston plays much better at home so I don't think this will be a shellacking like it was at CLC. I was at that game and hoo boy was it entertaining but the Bruins fans I saw all seemed like they were ready to blow a gasket.

Forgot about that blow out (no show). They owe us one tonight so I am expecting them to come out flying.

If we're gonna lay an egg on the road trip, this is the game to do it. I hate to say it, but we're almost due for a sub-par performance

I'm just happy it wasn't vs the Habs and I'd really like to see the Jets bring their A Game vs the Caps on Saturday. That should be a great game and a good measuring stick

My eye test is that Stanley>Fleury and Miller needs to be playing the right side

The stat test says

Statistically ("lucky" GF%, xGF%) Stanley - Miller has been our strongest 3rd pair this year. They've played maybe 15 games together

I'm sure someone (cough cough @Gm0ney cough) will come along and point out that Fleury - Miller have a better CF%, while at the same time ignoring the smaller sample size and all other metrics pointing to Stanley - Miller being better

Yeah from what I can remember Stan has had his best games when paired with Colin so this 3rd pairing is perfectly fine with me.

I was on the canucks board the other night and they kept mentioning a "Chaos Giraffe" which killed me. They were talking about Tyler Myers. Why couldn't we have come up with that nickname for 64.

We are in the Dog days of the season....it's all just a cruel grind at this point. and February is kinda a weird time in the schedule. So everything seems relatively meaningless.....
Like the upcoming "CAPS JETS #1 vs #2 In the league" narrative .. sure it sounds important ..but we all know it's ultimately meaningless no matter who wins. it has no predictive ability and is just another hoop to jump through at this point.

All I care about is playoffs and maybe...home ice...... losing 2 out of three on this road trip doesn't even bother me.... we have a bit of separation and aside from a total collapse, or terrible injure problems? I don't think we could even fall out of a wildcard at this point. Beat the division rivals, beat the conference rivals and keep in the top two in the division? I'm a happy chappy.

I agree 100% that the 2 points are ultimately meaningless

You're right, this part of the season can become very repetitive and monotonous for the guys. 82 games is a grind, and like anything else in life, the middle part of the grind is the hardest part (kind of like enduring the long cold winters in manitoba... December is OK because it's just starting and there Christmas to look forward to and the end of February/start of march is OK because the end is in sight... but those mid January and the long, cold dark days are hardest)

Ultimately this team got bounced last April because they failed to elevate their game like all other teams do during the playoffs. The Avs flipped some kind of switch between the shitkicking we gave them at the end of the year and game 1 (maybe games 2?) Of the playoffs

If I'm Arniel, I'm not waiting until the playoffs to hope the Jets find that next level. I'm finding a few big games here and there and using them specifically to challenge the team to up the intensity and to find a playoff style of game to play

It wouldn't be every game at this point, but this is one I'd circle on the calender. As the season winds down, I'm doing it more and more so that they're already humming at that level when the playoffs start. Trying to figure out how to do it at that time is a great way to end up down 3-1 in a series

How do u do that? I mean they are passing season with flying colours and u can’t recreate playoff conditions, reffing, closer games prior. You can’t get other team to play better, so it must be hard to keep players focused and not chasing points when it means more money when they have taken the last few games minus avs easily.

I say just get through these next 2 games without injuries. The Bruins may want to replicate the energy of the end of last meeting when they got embarrassed but don't engage them in the shenanigans, just win on the scoreboard, that's always the sweetest revenge. If Stan has to fight I'll think he'll hold his own. The guy is ripped, just needs to find the center of balance to throw a good bomb. Maybe Adam has given him some lessons on the road trip.

Bruins have some guys who cross the line defensively, so stars need to keep their head up.

Up front they are going to grind.

If the Jets play to their strengths they'll outskate the Bruins by a wide margin.

Also Swayman has been brutal this year, coming off his fresh new contract, holding out for Helly money, so get some shots on goal.

Don't expect the refs to give the Jets too many breaks in Boston.

Hoping that Parker Ford gets his first NHL game tonight. Kid has worked hard as an undrafted college signing to be in a position to get this opportunity. Maybe should have got it last year, he's been good at his trade: energy player, with a nose for the net.
