I wasn't sure about the SO. Knew we hadn't won in OT. I guess we still haven't then. :(

But why separate OT out from the other three extra time games we've played? 3 on 3 is just as much a crap shoot as a SO.

Jets extra time record

3 on 3 0-4
3 on 4 0-2 (twice we lost while on the PK)
SO 2-1

Overall 2-7

About 2-3 points below average

Beyak himself is hoarse

croaking out the glorious effort of El Capitan
Under Calgary’s battlements. Come, you denizens
of HF group-thought, be not unhinged
And fill our threads from the crown to toe top-full
Of virtual highlife! make cold Helle’s blood;
Stop up the 5-hole access and passage to remorse,
That no compunctious visitings of Horvat or Boeser

Shake thy fell purpose,

and let the beast of the second line, arise and take effect.

I don't agree that OT is as much a crapshoot as SO. Its validity is debatable. The SO has no validity to debate, IMO. I don't differentiate between OT that includes a PK and OT that does not. It is part of the OT setup and subject to the same debatability as the rest of the OT setup. If they played OT under the same rules as regulation, would you bring that up?

I would prefer 5 min 4v4 followed by 5 min 3v3. If still tied - its a tie. JMO
If neither team is capable of taking the extra point after that then neither team deserves an extra point.

You're asking the players to possibly play 70 minutes.

So now they play 65 and then the SO. Not much difference. If it is in the first of a b2b it is going to hurt a bit. Gives them some incentive to get it over.

How many of the games that end tied in regulation will get to 70? Or even beyond 65? It is still sudden death.

It is a crapshoot though. Every one of the games we lost we had glorious grade A chances to win. It's essentially flipping a coin. Even last season in the games we won the other team usually had an equal opportunity prior to us scoring. Matthews converts on that breakaway and Laine doesn't get the chance to win in with a hat trick goal for example.

4 on 4 OT was a much better "hockey" test IMO.

Just a matter of degree. We had glorious chances but couldn't put it away. Just like in regulation.

I was disappointed in 3v3. I had seen it done in mini-games years ago. Part of the All-Star game, maybe? Long time ago. Maybe it was even fewer than 3 skaters. The thing is that it was very fast, very dynamic, all skill and very entertaining. I thought 3v3 would be like that but as soon as everyone figured out that possession was everything it got dull.

Having seen 3v3 I would prefer 4v4.

I don't agree that is as much like a coin toss as the shootout. You have to beat the other team's 3 skaters and the goalie, not just the goalie. In fact I think the difference is quite large. It is still not good but I can accept it as a compromise, better than just ending in a tie. The shootout is exciting. It is fun when we win. It is **** when we loose. And it doesn't feel 'clean' even when we win. I don't respect it as a result.

The NHLPA says yes we'll do it if the NHL goes back to giving the player 57% of HRR. Otherwise why should they do it? They fought the original NHL proposal for a 7 minute OT (4 minutes 4 on 4 followed by 3 on 3). It is in the end a CBA item after all.

It is just a coin toss. A team looks terrible one year and fantastic the next (see LA kings) It's not a very repeatable skill.

Whatever. I'm not going to debate it with you and I don't give a rat's ass for NHL politics. It is what it is.

Nothing personal Sip - but it worked last time  and we need the 2 points just to keep pace.
