Jets Upcoming Free Agents

If its a choice between Ehlers or KFC, spend the dough on Ehlers. That keeps this Presidents trophy roster together for 1 more season. The window will never be open more than it is right now.

And prey for regular season Helly next playoffs.

I just looked this up. With the jock tax, it's less than I previously thought.
  • Winnipeg: ~8% more
  • Chicago: ~3% more
  • New York (NYC): ~11% more

Those are a few examples

When salary is payed in signing bonus

I Think that’s part of the reason for the huge signing bonuses every year. That’s taxed in home state.
Taxed in place you reside. I think it's way more complicated than that though.

There's a bunch of work by firms done that examined Matthews' contract for instance and the pros of signing bonuses, how taxes are levied on it and alternative scenarios of where he resides (CAN vs US States), paid out in salary (vs BONUS) etc.

I just think folks are throwing out numbers ie: save X amount of dollars, when it's far more complicated than that and alot of other factors that go into it. Just my view.

I think Toronto is going to back up their brinks truck to Bennett. Carolina has always had a lot of interest in Ehlers so I could see them having major interest. Vancouver has $14m to spend but also has Demko and Hughes coming up in successive seasons. Habs only have $6.1 to spend so the only way they will be able to be in on Ehlers is if they can move some cap out. I could see Detroit having heavy interest in Ehlers.
Fyi MTL have around 20M to spend, Price is going on LTIR again this year.

If I remember correctly they have to accumulate that over the course of the year or something like that. At the deadline they will have a lot more cap space.

There's also a limit on how much teams can exceed the Cap. $10.5 million has to be pretty close to the limit. I could see that contract traded to a team that wants to cheat the Cap floor. Maybe San Jose.

I am going to guess Fleury signs first.

Samberg 2nd (any Cubs fans?)

Before the draft. So defense isn't an issue.

Bauer gets an extension.

Barron signs multiyear.

Ford as well.

All round July 1st.

The Vilardi and Kupari deals might take some time, they are pivotal in the Dubois trade, with Iafallo already coming back.

I don't have a sense on where the Jets stand on Kupari.

With Lowry out to start the season, seems like the draft and the offseason, center is probably the position the Jets want to move the needle on.

Isn't Samberg arbitration eligible?

Those deals always go down to the last minute... neither side has any reason to blink until ammeter the date is set. Usually it's in the day/week leading up to the hearing that something gets done

With Pionk signing, it seems like this is the first one Chevy should get done out of RFAs. Don't want it dragging out, or somebody coming with a nasty offer sheet. I think if you are talking about him like a cornerstone the deal should be easy to negotiate. Term and allotment of money are probably in play. A 5/6 year deal for Dylan puts him in a position to negotiate a 2nd long term contract. The max term contract could see him age out on the tail end of it.

Can you name one arbitration eligible RFA that didn't come down to the wire? It's always the case, and that's league wide

Chevy could present an excellent offer, but Samberg (and his agent) would be best off to let Chevy sweat with the idea of getting him to cough up another little bit

I can't, I am sure there are examples. I'm just really hoping its goodwill on both parties. His deal and KCs would at least provide the Jets with some momentum in the offseason.

Jonathan Toews is 100% coming to the Jets. The only things holding it is that they're not allowed to sign him just yet, but not only that they need to get Ehlers, Connor, Lowry, Vilardi, and other expiring contracts settled before coming to an agreement. But from what it looks like it'll be a 1-year $2M with bonuses.

If nothing else, it continues to put the Jets on thr map with the league and it's fans

Aside from the eventual cup winner, the Manitoba Miracle and Schief's warrior performance were maybe the biggest stories league-wide this postseason. They put us on the map with some more casual fans, and Toews signingwith his hometown team would be another story with the same type of feel-good vibes for a small market

In time, we could become the Green Bay Packers of the NHL with a fan base that goes beyond our provinces borders

If true that is a solid show me deal. I was hoping it would be 1 year instead of 2 but if its 1 you'd be stupid not to do it.

Not holding my breath for Toews to be good but that would be a great story if he showed up a few years younger than he is on paper.

Hopefully you are right. Honestly with Lowry maybe out for the first month of the season i don't see how signing Toews is anything but a good thing. Unless we were signing him to big money, which we won't be , i just look at it as even if he doesn't have it anymore we aren't giving up much to do it. But if he still has some gas in the tank it's a major score.

Weird that we could actually get a potentially decent player without giving up assets lol

This must be how it feels to live in a desirable market
