Jets Upcoming Free Agents

Why wouldn’t this be his preferred destination? Is there a better team who has the cap space? If he wants to be the man, make more than he is worth then the Jets can’t compete with Vancouver or Chicago. If he wants to win, get paid a fair contract the Jets are probably the best spot. If he wants to be a rich loser on a team that feeds his ego the Jets have no chance.

The deadline is when the Jets make their first move to replace him. It’s not like they have one plan. If something happens there will be alternative plans. It’s not like if the Jets say the deadline is June 29 (for whatever weird reason) and on the 30th Ehlers wants to stay and he is the best option they will still sign him.

I'm stating my opinion on what I feel he's thinking. No different then anyone else. A couple of the plugged in media types also seem to think he's leaning that way.

There are other teams then us that can offer a fair contract and a chance to win like Carolina for instance. Although the Canes likely can also offer a top line wing slot as well.

The Islanders are another team that has a lot of quality down the middle and on defense but are missing an impact winger or two. He could get paid well there and be the missing piece to help unlock that offense playing top line minutes.

There will be plenty of different options and teams available to him.

I say this as a huge fan of Nik's but if a team wants to give him anything over 8M I say thanks for the memories and enjoy the rest of your career.
8m for how long though?
I'd easily give him that over 6 years.
I'd go as high as 8.5m x 7 years.
5 x 10m would be better.

You would give Ehlers 10 mil? That sounds expensive. I would rather sign him long term with the understanding that he will go on LTIR long term after season 5 the way Price did. That way it doesn't affect the cap.

I don't get this at all.

Why?

Yeah, why?
