I said the jets would have to attach a draft pick to move him. What round? No clue really. But I definitely don't think it'd be a 1st. There's no reason to move him like you said since they lost 3 Dmen in the off season. Doesn't absolve the fact that kulikov is horrible and overpaid though.

Would you still perceive him as horrible if he was making 2 mil/yr?

yes. he's horrible and overpaid, they're not dependent on each other. think i've made that clear. he could make 2m and his on-ice results are still trash.

We have to remember Kulikov is playing over his head and Pionk, while playing better then expected, can in no way carry him. Too much to ask.
he's been crap even when he was third pairing with Myers.

his play to begin 2017-2018 actually was half decent, then it went downhill

Uhh no, not like this. He’s playing his worst hockey since being in a Jets uniform. At least in my humble opinion. Him and Myers as a third pair was pretty solid. Anything more and we had problems.

Fair enough.

I think a lot of other people are influenced by his contract.

edit - 2nd worst, niku was worse but obviously half the TOI

Funny how pomo is getting all the credit for laine's play, if it wasn't for little's injury, the line makeups would be entirely different and we all know what the results were. every cloud has a silver lining, but it might be we don't need little as much as we all think we do. might be good trade bait for a dman as Kulikov is downright terrible this season with his play.

Laine's all around play was much better this year before he was moved up to Scheifele's line. Maurice demanded improvement from him and got it. So they both deserve credit. Maurice could have accepted him as a 1 D shooter. Laine could have pouted and resisted coaching.

Laine is still only 21 and is now a ppg player. He will exceed that when his sh% catches up.

I have been critical of Maurice. Among other issues, I think his coaching has failed with some prospects. But it clearly has succeeded with some as well. He has brought along a lot of good young players.

pretty sure in his post-draft interview he said he was taking 4 years. I'll see if i can dig it up (i think it was on 1290 when they were covering the draft).
I believe awhile back someone reported he was taking an excelerated course schedule to complete his degree in 3 years. I think you are remembering where he talked about the importance of getting a degree not 4 years specifically of school.

That's what most of them say.
Things change. I wouldn't doubt he signs in March. Gets a game or two with the Jets and then to the Moose.
There are no longer roster limits after the TD. Pretty sure signing will come along with assurances he will spend the rest of the season on the Jets roster not down in the A. Chevy's leverage is a ELC year, back to back signing bonuses and a couple NHL pay checks. Only way he plays on the Moose IMO is if the Jets season ends before the Moose season.

I give Maurice credit for taking a 40 goal scorer and turning him into a 20 goal scorer. I personally prefer the 2016-2018 Laine than I do the 2018 - current Laine.
If Laine doesn't score another goal all season but ends with 90 points someone is scoring on his line , this is better than him scoring 40 with 5 assists . Plus i really don't think Maurice is telling him to shoot wide or not score because he wants Laine to have a complete game .

There was a post a few months back explaining that he was on an accelerated program that would allow him to complete his degree this year, or very close to it, if he went back for one more season. That would be pretty good incentive to delay signing for 1 year.

Retaining the Captain was important and I can see why they resigned him.

I believe we’re in the minority but I agree with you

I agree in retaining the captain is important at that moment.

But i think the mistake was making him a captain. Should have been 55 all along.
This was a young upstart team that needs a young passionate leader, who has led a team before.
Many of the good teams have their young(er) top player as the captain above a vet.

55 as C
26 as A
and whoever

Would be the best

Scheif will eventually be our next captain whenever Wheeler retires or wants to hand it over because he wants Scheif to have it .

I'm not including Little in any plans for the future until he actually comes back. Just my expert internet Dr's opinion, but I think he should stay away from playing hockey for the rest of his life.

As a non-internet doctor, I would not go to the mat to disagree with your opinion.

Agree he will eventually have it.

Wheeler decision to hand it to whoever he chooses should have no berring on it.

I hope so......
