why would you get paid a signing bonus twice? It's a one time cash bonus.
you get the signing bonus when you sign the contract, not every year of the contract. the slide, and performance bonuses are different issues.

No, the signing bonus is applied to each year of the ELC.

The player still gets the annual signing bonus if the contract slides...but he only gets 3 signing bonuses. So if it slides one year, he doesn't get $95,000 in year 4 (and his cap hit would only be the base $880,000 in that 4th year).

Not to argue the point. I'm still unsure. If a player slides for 2 years does he get paid that bonus in the 2nd year?

If a player signs later so there is no sliding of the contract then it is clear the bonus would be paid on signing. But something does not add up for players whose ELC slides, either for 1 year or two.

As it is a 'signing bonus' it seems logical that it would be paid on signing but that leaves some fuzzy issues. If the ELC slides is the second signing bonus paid out on the anniversary of the signing, the next July 1 or July 1 of the 2nd year?
It's not fuzzy. Player signs ELC. He gets year 1 signing bonus. If the contract slides to year 2, he gets year 2 signing bonus. At that point the contract can't slide anymore so in year 3 player gets his year 3 signing bonus and is paid his 1st year AHL or NHL salary. Year 4 and 5, no more signing bonus as they have all been paid out, but player gets his year 2 and 3 AHL or NHL salary. Any performance bonuses are usually tilted to year 2 and 3 of the ELC to make them more achievable and to offset no signing bonus if the contract has slid for 2 years.

So he might not get that while playing the last 2 years of his ELC, if it slides that far. Still nice for the player, to be getting that $$ while he is in Jr earning chicken feed. Explains his incentive to sign now. Team's incentive is being able to slide that contract and to reward the player.

If He is a career AHL player that means He will get ….

This year - year 1 = 95k/ Niagra
Year 2= 95k in the ohl next year
Year 3 = $180k - 1 st year in AHL
Year 4 = $85k on moose / AHL
Year 5 = $$85k on moose /AHL

All $ in Us$ meaning add 40 %

Five year total of $540 k US dollars minimum.

This also means that He is going to be paid $130-140 k (Canadian) for this year and next to play and captain the Niagra OHL team.

I don't think so. His ELC calls for 3 signing bonuses totaling $285k. All NHL contracts are in $US. The $C is at .7 $US so 85k = $121,428 $C.

Your math is wrong this is todays exchange rate on $95k Us into Canadian!!!!
The first 2 seasons he will not see any of his $85 k salary and will recieve only his $95 k signing bonus as He will slide 2 full years.

He will only receive both his salary $85k and and 1 of 3 yearly signing bonuses $95k in his third year.

My math was not wrong. I used 85k where I should have used 95k. GIGO.

Still don't know why you even bring up exchange rate.

The error was in your earlier post where you said he would receive 5 signing bonuses because the ELC would slide 2 years. His contract calls for 3 signing bonuses.

You say your math skills are not wrong / instead your state it is your reading and comprehension skills are wrong instead.

Either way the bottom line is you were wrong.

5 year signing Bonus = comprehensive misunderstanding. I never said 5 year signing bonus.

ELC are 3 years and only go 5 years if it slides twice… but signing bonus is capped at 3 years….

You have already admitted your mistake of counting his $85 k Salary instead of accounting for his $95 k signing bonus for the first 2 years before the $85k Salary starts ….. as I clearly state the only year he would recieve both his salary and signing bonus is in year 3.

I’m not calling you out or want to discuss further ….. but I’m just being specific and stating exactly what I said.
