why would you get paid a signing bonus twice? It's a one time cash bonus.
you get the signing bonus when you sign the contract, not every year of the contract. the slide, and performance bonuses are different issues.

The player still gets the annual signing bonus if the contract slides...but he only gets 3 signing bonuses. So if it slides one year, he doesn't get $95,000 in year 4 (and his cap hit would only be the base $880,000 in that 4th year). No, the signing bonus is applied to each year of the ELC.

It's not fuzzy. Player signs ELC. He gets year 1 signing bonus. If the contract slides to year 2, he gets year 2 signing bonus. At that point the contract can't slide anymore so in year 3 player gets his year 3 signing bonus and is paid his 1st year AHL or NHL salary. Year 4 and 5, no more signing bonus as they have all been paid out, but player gets his year 2 and 3 AHL or NHL salary. Any performance bonuses are usually tilted to year 2 and 3 of the ELC to make them more achievable and to offset no signing bonus if the contract has slid for 2 years. Not to argue the point. I'm still unsure. If a player slides for 2 years does he get paid that bonus in the 2nd year?
If a player signs later so there is no sliding of the contract then it is clear the bonus would be paid on signing. But something does not add up for players whose ELC slides, either for 1 year or two.
As it is a 'signing bonus' it seems logical that it would be paid on signing but that leaves some fuzzy issues. If the ELC slides is the second signing bonus paid out on the anniversary of the signing, the next July 1 or July 1 of the 2nd year?

As of now Yager is likely our best chance at a top 6 center. Unlikely a true #1 center, but you never know for sure.Great …
Lots of up and coming Jets
just need a future 1C in 3-5 years
If He is a career AHL player that means He will get ….So he might not get that while playing the last 2 years of his ELC, if it slides that far. Still nice for the player, to be getting that $$ while he is in Jr earning chicken feed. Explains his incentive to sign now. Team's incentive is being able to slide that contract and to reward the player.
If He is a career AHL player that means He will get ….
This year - year 1 = 95k/ Niagra
Year 2= 95k in the ohl next year
Year 3 = $180k - 1 st year in AHL
Year 4 = $85k on moose / AHL
Year 5 = $$85k on moose /AHL
All $ in Us$ meaning add 40 %
Five year total of $540 k US dollars minimum.
This also means that He is going to be paid $130-140 k (Canadian) for this year and next to play and captain the Niagra OHL team.
