Walton and He being friends and former teammates is awesome.
So you’re saying these two guys who grew up together (ish) are both encouraging each other and having career years? And they were drafted by the same NHL team? AND they’re both looking like people id want to try on the moose next year with Barlow? (Can you imagine 2 prospect lines that are our scoring lines?)

That sounds like a 19-20 year old’s dream job. Playing hockey with my friends.

Jets prospect pool catching the eye of the Athletic. Top 15 at least for a team that has been in a pick deficit is impressive. No A/A+ blue chip guys, but the depth of the guys that should play NHL games runs deep. All comes down the development staff now. We should have a good outlook for future if we can figure out how to turn these guys into NHLers.

Yep.

And mebbe turn one of them into a centre. Preferably that elusive 2C that, like Nessie or that pot o' gold at the end of the rainbow, the Jets have chased and missed since 2017.

Yeah finding diamonds in the rough is a lot of skills and luck involved. If we are able to build a solid pool of guys who can contribute as depth on their 2nd contracts, or as trade chips, that's still a success overall.

Team needs can change quickly as well so it's nice to have an array of different player types capable of stepping in to prove themselves.

Murat has a piece in The Athletic that suggests that Chevy thinks Walton could be developed into a C. I think he has the speed and skills to do that, but he'll need to develop the consistency and mindset to play a 200 foot game.

I still think Colby ends the year with similar stats to the last two years. That’s a bit of a let down, as we fans expected more, but it’s still pretty solid scoring.

He’ll need to work on his skating and pro game in the AHL for a couple of years, but the kid has heart. He might still turn out to be a solid middle 6 winger with timely scoring and a pp threat.

We came in at 15th. The write up is great for anyone who wants to check it out and Wheeler seems to have similar views to how most of us see them. Below is his ranking/tiers. Chibrikov is lower here then most of us would have.

Saw some comments from Barlow's coach in the latest Jets prospects update on NHL.com, sounds like Barlow is in the right spot for his development:

Before taking over as head coach in Oshawa, Malone was hired as player development coach and helped Barlow work through his offensive struggles.

“I just kind of emphasized ‘When you show up in Winnipeg, the top six is full. There’s a lot of skill in that top six, so if you want to be an everyday Jet, you’re going to have to buy into being a checker that can play the structure and can score’”, said Malone.

“All these good NHL teams, they want their first rounders to come in and play full time but the whole checking emphasis in junior isn’t there. We’re trying to give that responsibility to Colby on a nightly basis so that when he does get to Winnipeg, that he’s put down some tape for management and the coaching staff to see that he’s able to play in that third line role and be a responsible checker and play hard and forecheck.”

Excellent news. Without having watched him aside from highlights posted in here, it might make sense that his production stalled a little when his focus went from offense only to a sound two way game

That's usually the step these prospects have to take on the Moose. People who don't watch junior hockey wouldn't believe how "loosy-goosy" or run and gun it is. Lots of guys putting up big points are doing it by cheating defense... being on the wrong side of the puck, feather dusting, fly-bys, etc... stuff that doesn't work in the pros

It's a nice review. Wheeler finally seeing the light on Salomonsson. Pronman still doesn't seem to recognize how good Salomonsson has become.

Jets basically have a top 7 or 8 prospects that have some NHL potential, but no elite talents on the level of 55, 81, 44, 27, 37. That's going to be an issue in the coming years unless the Jets can add some elite talent through the draft and/or fortuitous trades. So this really is their prime contention window, and the prospect pool is essentially a resource to add some secondary talent and depth at ow cap hits, or as currency in trades for established players.

Yeah, we have some two way balanced players in Yager and Salomonsson. Some middle 6 type offensive guys in Lambert, Barlow, Chibrikov and some decent depth at forward and in net.

We need to add a couple of real impact players to round out that pool. Going to be challenging where we are drafting from.
