I want these two to make it.

Me too. I always have a soft spot for prospects -- so much yet to come and you sorta dream along with them -- but this is an unusually interesting and exciting crop with such a diverse set of skills that it's fun to think about where and when they might slot in. Reminds me of the early drafts when we were watching out for JMo, Lowry, Ehlers and even Petan etc., who were a blast to watch as they started to dominate. It's all hope, and hope is critical to the enjoyment of sport, for me anyway.

Also, these threads are so much more friendly and informative, and I really enjoy keeping up with and learning about prospects without having to argue about it. If this thread were a pub, it'd be that more out of the way one that stocked proper ales and spirits and kept the fruit machines in a separate room (like the one that just closed down the lane from our gaffe here, sigh).

Here's to the next Jets gen -- plenty to enjoy with these fellas. Would like to see DD trade places with Milic for a few weeks to allow a quick reset but we'll see in the new year I guess.

Missed this:

I have to suspect that the reasoning behind sending DD down instead of Milic was to spare him the sh** show with the Moose.

I think both Fleury and Coghlan were expected to start the year with the Moose. One of them on each of the top 2 pairs would have been making a big difference to the Moose.

Makes me wonder now if the Jets aren't simply protecting Di Vincentiis from a bad team that could ruin his confidence early in his career.

Beat me to it.

In Flaherty we trust.
Drew Mac Intyre. Who replaced Rick St. Croix. But honestly with that Moose defense the way it is, especially with Salo out, might be good to have him play in situations where he isn't getting 40 shots a night, breakaways from breakdowns, and winning games early in his career. He only needs one more win right now to take the Moose lead in that regard. Might still be that way in January.

I just don't think the Moose would be as bad with DD in net. Recently everything has been bad, but earlier in the season they were losing a fair number of games because of goaltending.

I think they sent him down to get him more games, expecting Milic to take a back seat to the Finn on the Moose.

But is the ECHL schedule lighter overall?

I should mention that I'm not overly concerned that DD isn't playing in the AHL. The ECHL is fine hockey for a goaltender, he's facing a lot of pucks, playing a lot of games, and is doing well. I just think it's a bit odd that seemingly the best goaltender in the history of the minors isn't playing for the AHL team.
you forgot a word that I think you were looking for

Leave some room on the escape vehicle for Salomonsson too. Poor kid has gone from a championship team to a Moose team that's also fighting for the top spot... at the wrong end of the standings.
gotta wonder if salo's injury has been enough for the moose D to become the way it is now. He was their best D man and him being out is quite detrimental.

Now we do, but it wasn't that long ago that 90% of the posters on here wanted him gone.
Well, the Jets had league-worst starting goaltending for 4 of their first 5 seasons here, and they didn't seem too interested in moving on from Pavelec, so changing goalie coaches seemed like it might be a reasonable move.

But goalies seem to be who they are for the most part. No goalie coach could've fixed Pavelec and any goalie coach could look like a genius with Hellebuyck.

Now, you might say in Flaherty's defense "wELL WhAt aBOuT bROsSoiT?" But then I wonder...is it more likely that Brossoit picked up some pointers from 2 time Vezina winner Hellebuyck, or was career .887 Wade Flaherty whispering goaltending secrets in his ear. Hard to say. :sarcasm:

Yes, but they were still pretty bad even then. They still had Salomonsson and that helped, also Chibi. Before that they had Chibi but Lambert was with the Jets. The Moose never had enough depth this year to be without any 1 of those 3.

No, that was a looong time ago now.

I wondered on Sunday why kahkonen started instead of Milic, I think kakhonen played both games. They may be protecting Milic too.

This reminds me of what's happening with Jesper Wallstedt in Minnesota.

God the Moose are terrible. They never have really been good. I wonder why True North does not invest more in them.

Or Zinger just sucks as a GM. Probably.

I wonder how big a deal this is in China
I'm guessing that maybe in the Chinese hockey world

Outside of that, probably doesn't register

Interesting story... When I was going to college, the Mexican National Junior team came to play us in an exhibition game. We approached local Spanish radio stations to promote the game and they said that they don't have a word for "hockey"

Sending up the bat signal to chat about what is happening in Subury and the break out season that Kieran Walton is having.

The stats don't lie. He's been terrific. Last year, as a draft eligible player, my biggest concern was physical engagement...especially considering his size. That intensity wasn't there consistently and it concerned me. And it concerned scouts too; it was the reason he fell to the 6th round. Quite frankly, there was a lot of concern that he'd never develop that killer instinct because the same knocks were being held against him in his U16 and U17 years.

But this year, it's like the lightbulb finally went on. I wouldn't call him a power forward, but he's been way more active in puck pursuit. Way more determined to play through high traffic areas. He looks to have upgraded his strength as he's become more difficult to knock off the puck. That has lead to this breakout because the skill was never truly questioned.

Moving forward, it will be about continuing to upgrade his strength, continuing to make his physical intensity more consistent, and finding a way to upgrade his overall skating profile (especially balance/edgework given his big frame).
