Thanks for updates and I like the pts per game comparisons.
You're most welcome. (P.S. I think that was for me but not I'm not 100%).Thanks for updates and I like the pts per game comparisons.
The strange thing is he is still playing against the same cohort and is still more physically mature than many of his opponents. Yet, he isn't scoring. Even when he's been "hot" in his last 12 games, he only has 12 points in those games. I was never high on him as a prospect, but he is so far below the level he should be at, and even below where he was last year, that it's hard to explain. My concern when we drafted Barlow was that he matured much earlier than his peers and they would catch up to him. Of course I hope I was 100% wrong.
Similiar concerns about barlow however moving to a new team we should discount the slow start. He needs to keep scoring and continue to pick it up up the pace. There have been lots of 50 goal scorers from junior turn out to be duds as pros. He as time, lets hope he keeps building his game. The strange thing is he is still playing against the same cohort and is still more physically mature than many of his opponents. Funny how the team's social media was promoting the McGroarty - Barlow bromance at development camp two years ago and now we have like 6 or 7 prospects out-performing both of them. Life comes at you fast! It also emphasizes that we have a pretty nice group of prospects developing.
Barlow has a long way to go as a prospect. He is not such a "pure goal scorer" that he will be able to survive in the NHL with nothing else to add to his game.I don't see it the same way. Barlow had a slow start after holding out for a trade and missing camp and the first few games of the season. He had 0 points in his first six games but has played well since then, he leads Oshawa in shots and power play goals, and he's fourth on the team in goals overall and rapidly rising up that list. He's on the top line playing with Beckett Sennecke and producing well now. He hasn't gotten hot yet. When he does, everyone will know. He is what he is, a pure goal scorer. He's never going to be a grinder or playmaker, that's just not his game.
Well yeah, he's 19.Barlow has a long way to go as a prospect. He is not such a "pure goal scorer" that he will be able to survive in the NHL with nothing else to add to his game.
I think we should be worried about Barlow as a prospect. His production fell off in his D+1 season and now is nosediving in his D+2 season and we are seeing nothing else develop in his game. He is playing mostly against kids younger than him now in the OHL and should be a force.Well yeah, he's 19.

That likely played a part in it.My concern when we drafted Barlow was that he matured much earlier than his peers and they would catch up to him. Of course I hope I was 100% wrong.
I still think you have to have enough grinding and passing in your game to be able to contribute at the NHL level.I don't see it the same way. Yeah this is the concern. It's not that he is 19, it's that he isn't making big leaps from 17-19 like you want to see from your prospects.I think we should be worried about Barlow as a prospect. Yeah I think this makes sense. Let a rebuilding team with nothing to lose take a shot on him rebounding.Yeah, he'd be my main trade chip at the deadline if some teams still see potential in him.

Agreed, no need to write him off, just less hopeful than I once was.Don't disagree but there have been some extenuating circumstances so the jury is still out on his D+2. He needs to continue to pick up the pace and he needs to expand his game beyond just goal scoring.
He could still turn out to be a good prospect but take longer to develop as he adds to his game
He made it to the main training camp this year, got cut with Yager, and maybe the guys who got cut earlier and started with their junior teams are off to a faster start as a consequence.Agreed, no need to write him off, just less hopeful than I once was.
GM Rule - never draft guys with heavy feet. That likely played a part in it.

Lambert and Lucius both got sent back to WHL from the AHL at 18 and put up more than 1.5 pts/game.
Barlow had a pretty solid power forward sniper profile on draft day but the development just hasn't been there. It happens. I dont want to say he will never ever turn it around. Never say never.

For us, Chibrikov, Walton and He all look like better bets for top 6 one day. And all have more well rounded games for the bottom six.
