Hiller seemed to switch gears after 2015 and started targeting more size with his high picks and that didn't go so well.
It seemed the org switched back to more of a skill/IQ based preference 2019 and onward but our picks have mostly been much lower in round 1. Heck even Cole at 10th overall is lower then three of our first 4 draft selections (7, 9, 9). Rutger was the next lowest at 14. Then the rest were all lat teems through mid to late 1st round.
Yep.
Hiller may well be (and likely is) a lesser head scout than MC, but he's had lower and fewer picks to work with also. The Jets have spent picks pretty freely since 2018, and their consistency in terms of making the POs has helped ensure that the picks they have held onto aren't high ones,
It's one of the reasons why I'd prefer not to lose another 1st this year. The Jets pool may have climbed a bit this year but once again it seems to be strength in depth rather than a group of very high-end prospects.
Maybe we see a packaging of prospects/ young players rather than picks this TDL. Heinola is almost certainly gone, and I wonder if the org places its chips on Chibby as a sort of skilled Apples replacement over Lambert, and then includes him in a trade package, maybe with a pending UFA like Al, who I suspect is replaceable from within the system already (though the org may not agree).
I agree that there's no 2015-style prospects pod waiting in the wings -- but still quite a bit of talent to follow and root for, IMO. Can't make myself get into the headspace to dismiss a prospect whilst he's still growing up and maybe ready to make the leap.
