The last Habs game and the game against Carolina were irritating because there was no energy.... most games we are in.
Ok I hated the Toronto game too but for a different reason.
Last night never felt like it would get away from us although O’Halloran tried

He certainly tried his best, god bless his rabid soul.

7 of the Habs' slot attempts were tips on point shots. All of the Jets slot chances were actual slot plays with high danger shots. The Habs' two goals came on very low-danger types of shots, and Hellebuyck should have been expected to stop those. Hellebuyck did make some good stops, but overall I think the Jets generated more good slot chances overall. The main problem for the Jets last night was too many failures to stop a cycle and exit the zone cleanly. It's a particular problem for them these days. Scheifele's line, Morrissey-Poolman, Bourque, and a few others were particularly bad last night. The Habs turned that zone time into point shots with traffic in front, but for the most part Hellebuyck was in good position to make the stops.

Niku was just okay. Pairing with Bitetto is a challenge, but he still needs to be better at making good plays with the puck. He completely botched one fairly routine retrieval of a dump-in, and wafted an attempted exit up the middle that was picked off by the Habs at the blue line. He needs to be more reliable with the puck, or he won't be an improvement. I am optimistic he'll improve, but a bit of a shaky game last night.

Poolman should never get more ice time than Morrissey but Morrissey is making more mistakes than normal . Maybe because Poolman is his partner but Morrissey hasn't looked like Morrissey a few games this season . Poolman is playing better than i thought he would this season though .

I think Morrissey is nursing a lower body injury of some sort. I can see that something is a little off when he pivots. I might watch a little closer next game to try and figure out what it might be but he is not 100% from what I can see.

The "Poolman sucks" narrative by some on here is silly. Yes he is a little awkward at times, but he has the head speed for the NHL which is probably the most important attribute to have at this level. He makes mistakes but he is still a rookie even if he is an older one. I can see him eventually being a "safe-as-a-house" kind of defenseman that regularly pushes close to 20 minutes per game.

In what way should a goalie be 'expected' to stop a 2% chance of scoring but not 'expected' to stop a 4% or a 6% chance scoring or even a 20% chance? Where is the magic point where it's "close enough to 100% that we'll call it 100% and he's a failure if he doesn't stop 100% of them"? So he underperforms on some shots, overperforms on other shots (there's no way he should be expected to stop 100% of the other 28 shots, yet that's exactly what he did) and at the end of the day, you have his average.

Like even if you think stopping those shots from Chairot should be about as automatic as getting a PAT in NFL football, well, even Nick Lowery only had a career PAT rate of 98.9%. If even the very best kicker in history can't be expected to do something FAR less chaotic than stopping a hockey shot automatically as a matter of routine, why are we making arbitrary divisions in a shot's quality that people literally start shitting all over the goalie because "that's close enough to 100% that you suck if you don't stop 100% of them"?

Colorado lost again , we are 4 points back with a game in hand now . Win tonight and only 2 points back of 2nd place . Nashville lost 6-2 last night , maybe coaching wasn't the problem .
