Oh nice, have you ever visited Freedomtown?

Don't worry buddy, I got it.

Love to hear the Blue Jays Anthopolous is keen to add players to push for the playoffs. I'd love to have a GM like him for the Jets. He's made shrewd moves, and spent where necessary. He's got an eye for talent, getting Edwin Encarnacion as a waiver salary dump.

The leaders? The Los Angeles Dodgers at 235MM. The lowest? The Houston Astros that wouldn't even hit the NHL's Salary Cap floor at 44MM :amazed::laugh:

I would feel pretty helpless as a fan of Houston or Miami, or Tampa or Pittsburgh all at about 1/5th of the Dodgers payroll.

McConaughey's Kohle character in True Detective might be one of my favourite character's ever put on screen. Amazing. Only 1.5 eps left :(

McConaughey has really re-invented himself as an amazing actor the past 3-5 years. He'd had such a promising start with Dazed and Confused and Contact then fell into those money grabbing terrible movies like Sahara, How to Lose a Guy, Failure to Launch crap. However recently with some amazing performances like Mud, Wolf of Wall Street, Dallas Buyer's Club, True Detective and what looks to be another amazing role in Interstellar he is quickly becoming one of my favourite actors.

I am putting this on my to watch list for sure. There is just one season, correct?

There is a theory of thought that great TV shows shouldn't be binged watched as you lose the ability to have each separate episode resonate fully and that cliffhangers and suspense need time to breathe. I can see this point of view but man it is pretty hard not to do when they are all there ready to go right after each other.

I am really apprehensive watching shows that are not yet established. I have been burned before watching great shows that get cancelled because of lack of viewership. My list of heartbreak over losing shows I love is long.

Also, I hate watching shows that are only a season long and having to wait through the offseason. I didn't start watching Breaking Bad till it was over and just power watched that mofo. So great.

I am very very curious about Brooklyn Nine Nine though after the reviews here and elsewhere. Dare I find it and watch it??

True Detective is a self-contained story in one season. They're doing a 2nd season but it'll be different actors and characters.

Shows like True Detective are more mini-series than shows per se. Honestly right now I can't recall what happens in each episode as the whole thing is just one 8 hour story together. I prefer it that way to be honest.

And yeah @Jet True Detective is one mini-series. Season 2 is coming but Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaghey won't be back, it'll be another mini-series with all new characters about a whole new story.

I'll maybe give True Detective a try then. Last series I finished was Breaking Bad.

It will take a lot to top that one.

Meh I find Breaking Bad so vastly overrated. It's a good show, but nowhere near stuff like The Wire, Game of Thrones, Sherlock, House of Cards, Deadwood, Rome, (and now True Detective) IMO. And that's just dramas. Stuff like Arrested Development also very comfortably ahead of it.

Breaking Bad really lost it's way in the late 2nd to 3rd seasons. Twice I've tried to get through it but I just completely lose interest in the 3rd season. The first was great and first half of 2nd as well, but then meh. Lost was the same way, although Lost stayed good for about 3 seasons before going off the cliff. With all the ridiculous hype of the 5th season I will prob try starting at season 4 to finish the series soon.

I have never been able to get into any of those shows. The Wire was one I was interested in trying, but its not one Netflix.

In the last year, my only TV series have been, as mentioned Breaking Bad, and Prison Break, which I couldnt get past the 4th season as it went down hill very fast.

Brooklyn 99 is a solid show. I am of the same mind about not watching shows due to cancellations but I'd give it a try. It's probably the best sitcom on TV right now (unless Arrested comes back again ). Has been picked up for a full second season as well.

Urgh. Such a terrible show  Prison Break and 24 are the two super popular dramas you couldn't pay me to watch. (among more respected shows, don't think stuff like CSI should count as real TV).

They have it back on Netflix.

A show that you didn't mention is the walking dead. The work that they have done with the characters on the show is really second to none.

I found it amazing until they were put in the other prison (I havent watched it in so long I forget where it was ) Then it got very repetitive and boring.

Told myself I would finish it, but there is no chance now.

I still have to buy it. Regret selling the 4 book set I had. Have too many books to get through first

I had to slow down reading the 5th book. After I read A Feast for Crows in a weekend, I realized that I only had one book left before I had to wait for the 6th one.

I just finished watching an E:60 documentary about Steve Bartman. It's disgusting to learn about what he experience during and after the game.

East, that is a sickening story for what happened to Bartman. On a related note, that is one of the best documentary / exposee's that I have ever seen. Incredibly thorough - love how they make the fans black and white, then colorized the ones they are talking to or about. Also, showing the events by removing the fans makes for some tremendous film.

Interesting take Jet, I am an Anthopoulous fan as well. However, I am in Toronto right now, and all day they have been talking about how Alex is telling teams he can't take on salary. They say he is parsing words, saying we can always add players. Don't necessarily think the Jays will be adding payroll by the way all are talking here.

Just a note on Edwin...he traded for Edwin in the Scott Rolen deal. Edwin busted in Toronto, was sent to the minors, and ended up being scoped by Oakland. Alex re-acquired him, and the rest is history...but for the record - Alex did jettison him once ;)

Damn you guys...I don't ever, ever watch shows. However, you mentioned House of Cards, I watched one episode, and 2 days later I was 16 episodes in :laugh:

I'm on a posting roll in the YYZ...old and boring

EDIT: not as old as ps241

Very West Wing "like", with much deeper characters...can't believe how I find myself cheering for the bad guy

That will work for me. I have been missing a good political show

Have you seen the opening episode of Season 2?

House of Cards is unreal. I love the anti-hero's. Kevin Spacey is such a polarizing actor to me. The Usual Suspects, American Beauty, Se7en, House of Cards, hell even his voice work for Moon are amazing. Then he has such terrible movies like 21, K-Pax, Horrible Bosses. Can't figure him out (more good than bad though) but man does he nail the ultimate anti-hero in House of Cards. Such a great show. Gotta love his southern drawl as well, despite being from New Jersey.

West Wing is one of those rare shows that I haven't checked out. It was just a BIT before my time in terms deep political show while I just a BIT too young for at the time. It's on my list. It's actually right near the top of my list of shows to watch along with another american politics show although in a completely different tone in Veep (Tony Hale!).

I really hope AA can add some parts to help push the Jays over the top.
It is almost the end of July and the Jays are still in it.
So there is hope yet.

On a baseball side note. I got tickets to the American Association skill competition next Monday.
Looking forward to it
