This was going to be my question. Anyone have any comments on best places to buy?

Those are all good places to start. 1010 Tires has lots of reviews. (http://www.1010tires.com/Tires/Reviews/Winter).
I've got Goodyear Nordics on my minivan - they're okay...a bit noisier than the all-seasons, they're good in relatively deep snow but not awesome on ice (still way better than all-seasons on snow and ice though).
I had General Altimax Arctic on my wife's 2012 Civic. Those were good. A couple of years ago the snow on the residential streets around my house was deep enough that you could hear it scraping along the bottom of the car - never got stuck...not even close.
My wife's new car is an Elantra and I just put on a new set of Continental ExtremeWinterContacts. We had a Focus with a set of those a few years ago and I think they're the best winter tires I've ever driven on - great grip in deep snow and very good on ice. So I'm hoping the new set lives up to that standard.
I buy winter tires mounted on their own set of (ugly steel) rims and just swap them on and off myself in the fall and spring. I store the set I'm not using in my garage or shed. But I'm a cheap *******...
