Hell Sydney Crosby would have a hard time coming in and instantly turning this thing around!

I think Chevy tried to give this core the benefit of the doubt the last year and a half and it wont shock me to see a number of players moved this summer. I am looking directly at Buff.

Sure, Crosby would have Thorburn and Miettinen as his wingers and play 3 minutes a game.

It ain't over 'til it's over. While sure, more losing hurts us, I look forward for our team to get some good rest in the next week. Who knows, maybe it'll be what we need to launch ourselves. Might as well not be too down on ourselves this early in April.

Now our playoff chances is at 33.6%

I don't under why people get so worked up about that site.
Teams regularly go from having 75-80% playoff chances to almost nil.
If the percentages actually meant something they wouldn't fluctuate so drastically.

I love how wanting someone better than Antti Miettinen on the 2nd line makes me a naysayer fair weather fan. I don't know many fairweather fans who spend $5,000 per year on their team and watch every game once and sometimes twice. The Jets could miss the playoffs for the rest of my natural life, but my 2 year old is still going to inherit my ticket.

Every time I hear the "naysayer" nonsense, I ask for examples of what Chevy has done to improve this team and every time the response is the same: crickets.

I think it would be a shallow run, so as more of a 'long view' fan it wouldn't bother me too much if they didn't make it this year. But on the good side, it would give the casual fan something to hope for by just making it in. As in, 'hey we made it here before, maybe we can do it again, and do better'.

I hear lots of grumbling from naysayers, saying 'oh when the Jets suck for 6 years the fans will stop going to games, most people are fairweather etc.' I don't agree with that, but I do think that there are fairweather fans out there. Yes, even in Winnipeg! ;) But I think it's possible to convert fairweather fans to diehard fans, and that's by giving them a taste, and instilling the belief that anything can happen with the team. A playoff appearance, albeit short and shallow, could do that.

There are probably a lot of fair weather fans of the Jets here in Winnipeg, cheering for something shiny and new.
But there are a lot of hardcore hockey fans in the city that will not be willing to give up their season tickets even if the team falls on hard times. Once you give up your STs there is a chance that you will never be able to go to NHL games in Winnipeg on a regular basis again and when the team did get things turned around you would be on e outside looking in (through a TV screen).

When the season ticket commitments end the waiting list will likely shift a lot. But once that changeover happens the waiting list will probably not move much from year to year. The people that keep their tickets are in it for the long haul. The people that have languished on the waiting list for years waiting for a opportunity are also in it for the long term.

Hmm? I wasn't referring to anyone in this thread at all with my 'naysayer' or 'fairweather' fan comment. To be honest I only even skimmed through this thread lightly. I was simply commenting how a playoff appearance of any type would be good for casual fans.

Up to now what I think Chevy has done to improve this team is by not stripping assets for a quick short term gain.
We all knew that the team Winnipeg inherited was a "fixer upper" and it was going to take a while.
There is still a pretty decent chance that the team will make the post season and the future looks bright.

Winning would've assured that Chevy would be radio silent tomorrow. With the Jets now back at .500, I think you're going to see them selling. It might be a slightly different story in a full season, but realistically, losing Hainsey and Antro is going to be imperceptible over a 10 game span.

And to be honest, I don't think Burmi's long for the Jets either. This has nothing to do with my personal feeling about what kind of player he is. I just have a good feeling he's going to be a casualty, and at the very least will be shopped aggressively.

I have gone from not wanting to see him go to being open to it. His response to being benched was not what I was hoping for.

I just hope we get something good for him because he could still end up being a pretty special player.

Agreed. But remember the commitments were varied, I have a 4 year commitment for example. Mostly it will just be ticket groups that collapsed...and will be replaced by committed wait list members. We will be fine, IMO.

just to add to the ticket convo: there are some (actually: many) of us who would love to get in on the games but cannot since they are so damn hard to get a hold of

I will gladly take them, no matter how much the Jets are tanking

some of you guys who have season tickets have no idea how hard tickets are to get for us lowly non-STH's.

Very hard. Please, make an emotionally uncontrolled decision and give them up. some (actually: many) of us will thank you :)

Meh...
My opinion of this team hasn't changed, nor has their results been any different than what I predicted in the beginning of the season (as a team).

Old fashioned recap
I haven't read it yet so I can't tell you, but I bet that trade deadline is somewhere in there haha.

Individuals Fenwick and how line matching went
Quick summary: we got beat bad, not many players at par or in the black

Garret's zone entry tracking
Some good stuff, some bad; Miettinen and Jokinen should not be on the top6. Burmistrov hasn't been getting the points but he's at least getting the puck in the zone so other players have been able to make offensive contributions.

I can see this argument but trading 1 or 2 of your three 2nd round picks for a top six player with years remaining on his contract is not stripping assets, IMO. Especially when only 25 percent of 2nd rounders turn into roster players. You don't have to mortgage the future to improve your team. We are not on year 2 of a 5 year rebuild - this franchise has been rebuilding since 2009. A good number of our core players will be past their prime when Trouba, Scheifele and our 2013 1st are hitting theirs.

Problem is getting that hasn't been easy for any team lately

Funny, I put my tickets on sale on this site for last Saturday's game and only got one reply.

I'm surprised no one has commented about Postma yet. Scored 2 goals and may bad plays leading to 2 against, maybe 3.

The biggest issue is the guys we lean on for offence are tapped out.

It occurred to me tonight, how much food must Buff eat to play so many minutes and still be fat? Often people say he looks to causal or lackadaisical but I think it is because he is so exhausted most of the time. Can you imagine how much better he would be 20-30 pounds lighter?

Yeah I'm sure it's exhausting having to hear people calling you fat all the time.

I really wish people would stop assuming. I've never compared this 2 players
According to many fans ex-Thrashers have little to no-depth. Obviously Sean is more ready to play in NHL and could provide this depth. In additional his market value is fairly high and we could try and trade him for more offensive upside. Instead we keep claiming of waivers and blame Thrashers, really?

Do you even follow the NHL or Couturier's performences before making posts such as the one above?

Player | GP | G | A | P | +/- |Age
Sean Couturier| 33| 2| 7| 9| -12| 20
Alex Burmistrov| 34| 3| 5| 8| +5| 21

How much impact has Burmistrov had on this team this season? If Couturier was posting that kind of numbers on the Jets the exact same people who critisize drafting Scheflie over Couturier would be calling for Couturier's head... declaring him a bust and advocating trading him at the deadline for scraps. If anything the two years since the draft have shown that Scheiflie was drafted right about where he should have been. There is clearly a set of top tier forwards from that draft (RNH, Landeskog and Huberdeau) and there's a second tier (Zibenajad, Strome and Scheiflie). Scheiflie fits right in with Zibenajad and Strome. Infact Scheiflie and Strome have almost the exact same PPG stat in the OHL. No other forward from that draft in the OHL has a better PPG average

I personally like Schief's game better than Hubredeau's. The main difference between the two is the opportunities given by their respective coaches.

I didn't see the game so I can't tell if we played bad or not. I'm getting really, really nervous about the playoffs now though. If there was ever a time to sell this season, now is the time. We need to be thinking about the future, not a short playoff run.

Blow it up.

Hainsey, Antropov, Wellwood, Jokinen, Miettinen, Clitsome and Thorburn all need to go. They're UFAs (except Jokinen) and I don't think any of them re-signing will help this team going forward.
