and its fairly well known that once someone injures a part of their body it becomes easier and easier to re-injure that body part, at least i thought it was common knowledge especially with muscle injuries (some people think bones may heal stringer after a broken one)

What exactly do you find strange about that? You injure something once it makes it more likely to injure it again. This isn't something new.
