I honestly didn't hear anything from Scheif that he didn't like Mo's style.
He may be looking forward to new coaching and ideas, but that is likely a canned response from any player - especially one who sounded like he wanted out with his season ending comments AFTER MO HAD ALREADY LEFT. If his problem was with Maurice, his problem was already gone. Maybe he was more concerned with the replacement?

BTW, I'll take 55's comments as they were spoken - this has nothing to do with calling him out to be lying - why go there? These guys speak around topics all the time - he's not going to say anything that might further drive this narrative - it's part of keeping the peace and moving forward.

in the end, you and I have no idea how much coaching or feedback 55 received from Mo -
We do know that Mo left well ahead of 55 season ending outburst - for all we know, that outburst was a result of Mo leaving and being replaced by a coach that did not work well with Scheif.

He has said multiple times that he's excited about the communication with Bowness, how excited he is to have a coach that communicates etc etc. If you haven't listened to his interview on 32 Thoughts this weekend, do so. He said he hasn't had that for a long time - in his interview with Sara Orlesky at the golf tournament he said he hasn't had that in his CAREER. More than canned responses endorsing a new coach, he's gone out of his way to say communication was lacking for years from the coaching staff. Nothing changed with Lowry. It's more likely that he kept things similar to Maurice rather than completely change things up.

I bring up people thinking he's lying because he hasn't just made canned responses.

I just listened to Mark's 23 thought interview. I think it's clear he had enough of Maurice prior to him leaving. He keeps bringing up not knowing why things needed to be done and how he's looking forward to understanding why they do things under Rick. Seems like Maurice wasnt as good a communicator as he appeared.
Yes - Mau is an orator, not a communicator. He's inspirational, but as I've said before, he isn't a strategic thinker. He coached on gut instinct, but people with his cognitive function stack struggle to explain their decisions in a clear way.

It struck me way back when Petan was bouncing between the AHL & the Jets - "I wasn't told what to work on or what I could do to earn a spot" - but I'm kind of surprised at how extreme this apparently was for even Scheifele. That means that multiple coaches (ie assistants, too) have failed us.

Haven't had time to watch enough of Bowness' interviews to evaluate his personality yet (I've been very busy all summer, including moving) - and had zero energy for the Jets' drama, but hopefully I'll be able get back into it in October/November.

I am optimistic - because we can't get much worse... Right, guys? 😏

I do think that having a totally fresh slate means everyone has incentive (and finally a realistic chance) to impress the new coaches. Can't rest on past laurels...

Yup, good communication goes well beyond being charismatic and sounding Intelligent. I'm sure at one time Moe's message was getting through and was well received. At that point the team was playing to its strengths and imo its easier to get buy in when your vision aligns with the players. To me we've had way more issues and disjointed play, frustration when Moe restricted his schemes back in 19-20. We went from having a clearly defined identity as an aggressive team to a passive reactive team. My guess is the players didn't like this much and Moe could not properly explain the reason for the deviation.

I don't think he does. I can point to a time Wheeler wasn't annoyed with the media too, that doesn't mean one incident is the reality. He could just as easily have been frustrated for being benched for something while not being told what he's doing incorrectly.

Didn't say he didn't like all the ice time, I'm sure he did. I think taking his ice time as a sign that he thinks everything is fine and he loves Maurice and what was going on is making a lot of different conclusions to get there. Everything he's said this summer has indicated he did not like Maurice’s style - you can either take him at his word or think he's lying to try to save face. I think it's the former, some will think the latter.
I find 55 to be pretty genuine. He really doesn't come off to me as a spin guy really

That interview was super refreshing and made me not dislike him as much as I have since the year end. Ultimately, he’ll have to walk the walk but I just find it wild now that Maurice is gone how the media has turned on his tenure and tactics. Bunch of brown nosers… hoping media sticks to being able to ask the tough questions when needed

I wouldn't say the media has turned on Maurice. Scheifele is offering this stuff unprompted.

Just listened to Mark on the 32 thoughts podcast. Pretty solid interview. Room is tight, feels he can go to dinner with anyone and it's cool, team really lacked direction last year, didn't know what they were doing scheme or system wise, really enjoys that bones seems to care about him and calls him in the off season and sees how he's doing, says he hasn't had that his entire career (pretty damning statement on Maurice) (makes you wonder if he actually visited Laine in Finland honestly) is excited and looking forward to understanding the schemes and systems and the why's of the system, why are we running this and what's the point or end game really in said system. I think Mark will be much improved this season. He sounds excited. To those who haven't listened, you should. It explains a few things

As usual softball questions by the media. Not saying they should grill him but how about at least cordially *bringing up* Stastny's comments about lack of respect for each other and players caring more about personal stats more than the team .Schiefele says media exaggerated/doesn't know where this chatter came from? Noone forced Stastny to say what he did . He wasn't even asked . He just truth bombed on his own accord. Plus theres other stuff like from the Winnipeg Ice coach . Then PLD wanting out. ALL media created apparently. Room is tight?

Not saying things will not improve with Bowness. But pretending all things have always been tight in the locker room is insulting our intelligence

Did Freison get in trouble for posing this question to Bowness?
How about posing the same question to Schiefele? Wheeler? Is it really that hard?

Friesen and Murat are about the closest we get to tough questions - but Friesen is definitely not on the A list

Make dancing gabe the captain - at least he works hard every game
I don't know, I think he's gotten a little lazy and entitled.

You aren't going to get a straight answer to that anyways so why bother? It's an internal team matter and will be handled that way.

Why do fans think they have some inherent right to this information? It's a business.

This has to be some sort of exaggeration from scheifele....

And ya know, not only is he kinda throwing Maurice under the bus with such comments, but also that guy that coached him for 3 years in Barrie.

Maybe his feelings about Dale have changed in the 2 years since he gave this interview?

Or maybe, as I strongly suspect, a lot of what Scheifele says is like his opinion on analytics: a bunch of hogwash.

I take it to mean his professional career.

Maybe that's what he meant, but the guy had Dale in his draft season and two seasons afterward so might have been a good idea to be a little more specific instead of leaving it open to interpretation.

Hockey players and athletes in general aren't PR specialists by any means - Connor McDavid is the latest example. I think we read too much into players' in general.

Right? It's a valid follow up question to ask. Not demanding, just asking.

Its one thing if they say it's a private issue that was taken care of.

But When players actually ask the question "why does the media think there's a locker room problem?" "Not sure where that came from" etc, (act like nothing was ever wrong) that's when the media can respond with " Well That’s what one of your players said on his own volition"

Yeah they may not give a straight answer.. But maybe they will shut up with the "I don't where the media hears this stuff" bull crap. We're hearing it from players ,not the media conjuring something out of thin air.

I did check out 32 thoughts - thanks for pointing it out.
It was a good interview and it left me with hope that Scheif is serious about logging into Bowness and looking forward to working with him.
I'll join the crowd in assuming he's been starving for communication and Bowness is going to help him with that.
I'll also assume his really bad exit remarks at the end of the season were based on frustration with all of it - including Maurice -
Cautiously optimistic.

imagine being a young player/teenager, breaking into the league, and having 0 communication like this.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Scheifele when younger had more contact like this from the coach/organization he just doesn’t remember it as clearly because it was long ago.

I believe it was Armia or Lemiuex when they were traded here mentioned how it was weird that the organization kept in touch so much with them in the offseason because that was something Buffalo never did.

Bowness is also having a different offseason than most coaches because he’s new and needs to talk to the players and get to know them so he has some sort of relationship before the start of camp, I’m sure Maurice along with every other coach hired this offseason has been talking to the players.
