I'm fine with this hire. Bowness took a mediocre Stars team to only two games away from Lord Stanley two years ago. Nothing to sneeze at.

He's not Trotz, but we could do a lot worse (Tocchet, Lowry, Maurice).

The negativity on this forum sometimes borders on the absurd.

The reality is Trotz was the first choice of almost every team looking for a coach. Barry Trotz was the cream of the crop and we almost had him. Next year Rick Bowness may request to step down to be Barry's assistant.
I thought Jim Montgomery was Chevy’s second choice.

where did it say we are not still looking to trade wheeler?
Blake Wheeler is the last remaining Thrasher player on this team and he was Paul Maurice’s pet.

Bowness had a big part in developing and playing Robertson, Heiskanen, Hintz etc. The fact that he played Roberston (a 2nd rounder) more than Seguin and Benn and basically played the guys who deserved it, is great for the future. He will play the players who earn it nightly, not just who has been around the longest or who makes the most money.

I think he will force the older guys to commit to playing defence and fix some of the locker room garbage as well.
It will all depend whether Bowness will project a feeling that he could retire at any moment.

Isn't Mark S friends with Segin? I believe he also has alot of respect for Benn. He has name dropped him before when asked about his favorite nhlers outside of wpg. . I wonder if this was a factor. Not a big leap to think Scief will get along with his friends' former coach. Wouldn't be surprised if Schiefele is texting or ringing them up about Bowness

Regardless of Bowness’s reputation of being a hard ass my concern is it won’t matter to this group who didn’t listen to Maurice or Lowry.
Maurice got no where motivating these guys so I’m interested to see if TNSE moves the malcontents because they certainly most know who they are.
If the team remains essentially the same and we don’t improve then that’s on TNSE not on Bowness

You’re essentially saying, that regardless of what they do, nothing will be an improvement… even though coaching has been the hottest topic on this board for over a year. Seems like you’re setting yourself up to complain if/when things don’t work out so you can say “i told you so”. lol

Yes, this was a stop gap hire at best. Bowness was a desperate hire.

Did you all see that beautiful buxom blonde behind Rick Bowness?!
She's a two timer

Please Understand
Finalising a deal, but still no official announcement, huh? The rest of the off-season will be fascinating, because I have a hard time believing that the malcontents in the locker room will react positively to what is widely perceived as the 2nd (rumoured 3rd) choice for HC. Guess that's where his experience will come into play.

Aavco on twitter is speculating that Chevy is intentionally delaying the official announcement so he doesn't have to do a media availability till the draft when there will be less time for the media to ask questions about everything that has happened in the offseason.

How so?
The locker room is a legit issue.
Fixing coaching is 1 of 2 problems to address.
Status quo on the roster is in my opinion a fail.
The organization turned a blind eye for a few years on an issue that Maurice could not fix in addition to providing a bland team with no discernible system masked by above average goaltending. It’s not a stretch to say Bowness is being put in a position of weakness IF there aren’t plans to remove the problem(s) from the dressing room.
However there is still plenty of time to make roster changes and I fully expect they will.
I don’t feel it’s negative to criticize if it’s warranted.
How do you think STH will feel with no significant roster changes.
Some probably don’t even like the coaching hire, I do think Bowness can be successful IF TNSE doesn’t stand pat on the locker room issues.
If they don’t then it really doesn’t matter who they bring in.

Don’t really know about hiring a guy who said he really didn’t want to coach anymore, sounds like he’s doing a favour to the organization in an interim role!
Looks like it. Trotz needs another excuse for taking a second year off next year ;)

Maurice has been quoted to saying the Jets aren't really built for a grinding defensive game . I will be interested to see what Bowness will say on is presser about his mothodogy/approach to this team

I don’t mind the hire. Sounds like A grizzly vet was needed to fix issues.
Agreed. Hard to convince win starving players the coach knows what it takes to have success in the playoffs as a coach, when he hasn't had any . Not saying a young coach couldn't work with other teams . This Jets team needs someone with clout. Some recent success and a history of instilling defensive systems helps too.

You literally said, regardless of the coach, it won’t matter. That is what you typed. I don’t understand why you negative Jets fans can’t accept being called out. You’re going on a god dam rant at this point. :help:

glass half full take: I was excited about the prospect of bowness as an assistant under trotz.

I wonder if they passed on pascal because they know they need a ball buster who commands respect. Because the room sucks.

This also tells us the jets think they can still win in the short term. That means any thought I’d trading anyone anytime soon is probably off the table. I think it means that management wants more control and I think trotz wanted some more say than they were willing to give.

This is not a sexy choice. It won’t sell any tickets. And if they decide to fiddle for the next two years and lose PLD, Helle, Scheif for a lot less than they’d get now, it will be a long difficult re build.
