Has he had a top 6 this good before?
Chevy can finally breathe a huge sigh of relief. I guess Rick Tocchet also turned him down.Second time around for Rick as Jets head coach!
No way Babcock wanted the job.He was hired as There was no one else was available
Overly optimistic take but maybe they are just hoping to kick the can down the road and re-engage with Trotz next offseason. Bowness is close to wanting to retire anyways.
I thought Jim Montgomery was Chevy’s second choice. The reality is Trotz was the first choice of almost every team looking for a coach. Barry Trotz was the cream of the crop and we almost had him. Next year Rick Bowness may request to step down to be Barry's assistant.
I don't think anyone knew who's chevy's second choice wasI thought Jim Montgomery was Chevy’s second choice.
Blake Wheeler is the last remaining Thrasher player on this team and he was Paul Maurice’s pet.where did it say we are not still looking to trade wheeler?
It will all depend whether Bowness will project a feeling that he could retire at any moment.Bowness had a big part in developing and playing Robertson, Heiskanen, Hintz etc. The fact that he played Roberston (a 2nd rounder) more than Seguin and Benn and basically played the guys who deserved it, is great for the future. He will play the players who earn it nightly, not just who has been around the longest or who makes the most money.
I think he will force the older guys to commit to playing defence and fix some of the locker room garbage as well.
I had to look carefully I did eventually find themYes, this was a stop gap hire at best. Bowness was a desperate hire.
Did you all see that beautiful buxom blonde behind Rick Bowness?!
Regardless of Bowness’s reputation of being a hard ass my concern is it won’t matter to this group who didn’t listen to Maurice or Lowry.
Maurice got no where motivating these guys so I’m interested to see if TNSE moves the malcontents because they certainly most know who they are.
If the team remains essentially the same and we don’t improve then that’s on TNSE not on Bowness
She's a two timerYes, this was a stop gap hire at best. Bowness was a desperate hire.

Finalising a deal, but still no official announcement, huh?
Embarrassing. My Tom Watt prediction was closer than expected.Second time around for Rick as Jets head coach!
Jeez guys been in the business for 20 years but he's delaying contracts because he's scared of the winnipeg media? PuhleaseAavco on twitter is speculating that Chevy is intentionally delaying the official announcement so he doesn't have to do a media availability till the draft when there will be less time for the media to ask questions about everything that has happened in the offseason.
How so?You’re essentially saying, that regardless of what they do, nothing will be an improvement… even though coaching has been the hottest topic on this board for over a year. Seems like you’re setting yourself up to complain if/when things don’t work out so you can say “i told you so”. lol
Looks like it. Trotz needs another excuse for taking a second year off next yearDon’t really know about hiring a guy who said he really didn’t want to coach anymore, sounds like he’s doing a favour to the organization in an interim role!
I don’t mind the hire. Sounds like A grizzly vet was needed to fix issues. He took Dallas way farther than they should’ve gone.
that said, I would’ve preferred a new younger coach
Agreed. Hard to convince win starving players the coach knows what it takes to have success in the playoffs as a coach, when he hasn't had any . Not saying a young coach couldn't work with other teams . This Jets team needs someone with clout. Some recent success and a history of instilling defensive systems helps too.I don’t mind the hire. Sounds like A grizzly vet was needed to fix issues.
How so?
The locker room is a legit issue.
Fixing coaching is 1 of 2 problems to address.
Status quo on the roster is in my opinion a fail.
The organization turned a blind eye for a few years on an issue that Maurice could not fix in addition to providing a bland team with no discernible system masked by above average goaltending. It’s not a stretch to say Bowness is being put in a position of weakness IF there aren’t plans to remove the problem(s) from the dressing room.
However there is still plenty of time to make roster changes and I fully expect they will.
I don’t feel it’s negative to criticize if it’s warranted.
How do you think STH will feel with no significant roster changes.
Some probably don’t even like the coaching hire, I do think Bowness can be successful IF TNSE doesn’t stand pat on the locker room issues.
If they don’t then it really doesn’t matter who they bring in.
