One nice thing about the team winning so much is actually being able to wake up and not feel like going tonight and be able to sell the tickets for what you paid for on the day of the game instead of just going cause nobody would buy them for face value like a lot of the seasons over the past few.

I wanna see another game like last night.

LETS GO DEVILS!!!

Should have given the easier Pittsburgh game to Blackwood.
I've seen people say something about how they give Vanecek the ''Division'' games, but I'm not sure if that's by design or not.

They likely weren't gonna play Blackwood two games in a row.

I'm more surprised that they played Blackwood against St. Louis and not Columbus.

Division factor I guess?:sarcasm:

Can't wait to see loser boy in net

Doesn't mean we're gonna lose, just means it's gonna be that much harder to win

Wait why are you so down on Blackwood? Just last week you were giving him such high praise as “he’s not an auto loss” and “even Blackwood can play a good game”. What changed?

Hey, I said it doesn't mean we're gonna lose, but that it makes it that much harder.

Especially against Hellebuyck, where the difference between these two goalies is almost like the difference between a pro and an amateur.

But hey.....Sometimes Martin Brodeur loses a playoff series to Damian Rhodes.

I almost called him Dusty Rhodes because I couldn't think of his f***in name.

The division factor was probably a factor.

You can endlessly bitch about how they manage the goalies this season and will continue to believe there hasn’t been any real mistakes.

Considering Vanacek’s sterling record, they’ve done a solid job there.

They got magical run out Schmid.

They got a .600 Quality Start % out of MacKenzie Blackinjuries, that’s his highest since it was .667 in 2018-19, and he’s been uneven this season.

I’m going to this game, so if MacKenzie BladReboundControl loses it I won’t be pleased, but if Vanecek is a non-overworked top goalie going into the playoffs, I’m good overall.

Considering how miserable our cursed situation at goal has been for years, including being 2nd to last in SV% the previous two seasons, it’s impressive that you can be this cranky when we’re 9th in SV% now. (Not surprising obviously, but impressive lol.)

It’s like they secretly hate Canada and are trolling them lol.

I know the simpler explanation is flattery gets you everywhere and they want to sell magazines, but holy hell, a lot of fans had to wince at that.

Sports Illustrated had some covers like that back in the day and they were usually (always?) wrong too.

I have no complaints about how they've managed the goalies since the turn of the calendar year.

Zero.

I didn't really like him being in against St. Louis over Columbus, but that was about it. That's really a petty critique as well, considering Blackwood could have easily TANKED us the Jackets game since he sucks and we may have lost the Blues game anyway with Vitek. That was the only complaint I've had since he got the random start against Carolina on New Years after we snapped a losing streak. I was expecting him to be in for the road Carolina game a week or two later, the first game of the road trip after we won the home game against the Rangers in OT, once again not allowing us any momentum and they resisted the urge.

And for what it's worth, I think I'd rather play Blackwood against the Jets than the Pens anyway, as I think the Pens are slightly more offensively threatening the Bowness Jets. Though the Jets have the way better goalie. That was just in response to a post asking why he wasn't in against the Pens because they're a weaker team.

I still think he's a worthless shit bag goalie. I think he SUCKS as a goalie, but I can't really bitch about how they've used him in the new calendar year. They've somehow known his role and they've shut their mouths.

And I do think his injury was the best thing that ever happened to this team, as they let Vitek run with it. Blackwood would have started all the games Schmid started and probably 4-5 of the games Vitek played while he was injured.

Obviously they're going by career records. Blackwood has never lost in regulation to the Jets.:sarcasm:

I have a hockey news from the year 2000 or 2001.

There's an article on DiPietro, who was said to be ''The best goalie drafted since Martin Brodeur 10 years ago''.

That probably wasn't such an outlandish statement, as that was just only 10 years after Marty was drafted. It wasn't like it was 20 or 30 years later, but it's just kind of sad because of what DiPietro became.

Ironically, the best goalie drafted since Brodeur actually was taken in that 2000 draft, just wayyyyyyy later and under really no one's radar. And the hockey news probably didn't even know who the hell he was prior to 2005. I'm sure the Swedish publications did.

I will one day dig this up. I know it's in this house somewhere. I haven't seen it since I moved in here in 2011, but it's put away somewhere.

Should have given the easier Pittsburgh game to Blackwood.
I questioned a couple starts Blackwood had earlier in the season, because he seemed to get the harder of the two options, but then I wondered if Lindy was playing it safe for games he expects us to win? It’s easier to stomach a bad game/loss to a tough opponent if you always beat the teams you know you should beat.

Managing goalies when you have a playoff cushion is also way different than when you're not in must-win mode every game. Plus since Vanecek doesn't have a history of big workloads and Blackwood doesn't have a history of staying healthy we'll likely play them a 2-1 split in the immediate future, as long as Vitek still has a grip on the #1. Wouldn't surprise me if Blackwood wound up playing two of the home games (today included) since the schedule gets compressed this week.

Tin foil hat time: Or you give the guy that's up for a contract next year the harder matchups to control next year's price?

Or if you are not so conspiracy theorist:. To determine his worth 😆

They don't...but there is still a business decision to be made.

I don't value project managers for the most part but I still need some spreadsheet jockey on my team. Ya know?

I think in this case it's more likely a case of which game is more important, one against a divisional opponent, who while not close in the standings is still in the playoff hunt in our own conference...or a team from the other conference where it's not as big of a deal if you lose points to.
