The number of injuries is a factor, too. I’ve been way more embarrassed by Canucks’ efforts before. This group tried tonight. But they just didn’t haven’t the talent / ability to break through a very tight checking Winnipeg team.

This is going to be a long, ugly stretch of hockey if Horvat is out for any length of time as well.
Da.

Jets team started playing playoff hockey and we had ZERO response because we're really not a well structured / well coached team.

Hiding under WTG's bed...
All of them, but I don't have them memorized. LOL
I know exactly where I was when Rick Monday homered off of Steve Rogers in that "playoff game" between the Dodgers & Expos. I have a habit of jinxing teams I follow as a fan.

Course I also remember *THE* Paul Henderson goal against Tretiak way back in 1972 even though I was still young enough to cry "that moment" in the movie Old Yeller.

Bahahah

Green reuniting one of the worst pairings in the NHL

Hughes and Myers.
They need balanced d pairings.

In Benning and Green's reverse meritocracy, that means they balance the pairings out by height. Schmidt looks 5'10 or 5'11 despite his hockey card.

Edler-Schmidt
Benn-Hamonic
Hughes-Myers

Have to height balance, can't have two tall people or two short people on one pairing. Stecher had to go because the height gap couldn't be balanced. Still applies now. Hockey geniuses at work.

So you are telling me Hawryluk/Vesey/Graovac can't replace Sutter/Beagle/Pearson?

New guys will perform better after many practices and gained familiarity in the system, but we're dealing with AHL level of players compared to veteran NHLers. Of course Pettersson and losing Horvat this game sucks.

It's like starting with a new team at this point. It's a tryout for next seasons bottom 6.
Hawyrluk, Boyd, and Graovac are a better group of players to have.

Do you know why? (Outside of the fact Hawyrluk and Boyd are better than Beagle and Roussel)

Because they all make league minimum and some have two way deals so with the savings vs the $10.5MM those guys cost, you could reallocate the savings to upgrading on Bum Sutter and adding a top six forward or top four D.

That was a nice run of games the last 3 weeks or so, but after tonight, they're officially done..They're not going to win the next game with whats left of the forward group.

Should be interesting to see what they do after the week off...?...Pull back Edlers minutes..get Juolevi in..Maybe Mikey D will get a game or two...Maybe Pod might be here..?

i'd like johnny canucker to explain what specifically he thinks william carrier and steven lorentz do so much better than hawryluk
Are you serious?

Carrier is 6'2 225 pounds and gets 250+ hits a year and can skate like the wind.

Hawerchuk is 5'10, 190 pounds and throws 30 hits a year.

Carrier is a role player and exactly what you want on your 3rd and 4th lines.

Playoffs? Does it really matter? If the Canucks ever came up against this Jets team in a playoff series, they wouldn't win a best-of-20.

Another loss on Wednesday night, then a week off....by the time they get back on the ice, the playoffs will be a distant memory. It would actually be good if the Canucks were firmly out of it during the last month. Then the sell-off can begin.

If Bo Horvat is gone for awhile, they might as well fold their tents. On a positive note, Demko did what he could. Made three ridiculous stops in the first period alone.

I don't know if Edler is playing hurt, but he had a nightmarish night. Caught flat-footed on the first goal; got completely turn-styled by Ehlers and bailed out by a miraculous save by Demko. And of course fells Horvat with a shot from the point. Canucks will be hard-pressed to bring him back unless it's a lowball deal.

I was actually impressed with the play of Vesey....he might be a guy you'd consider bringing back if they can get him on an affordable contract.

A franchise that prides itself on statues of white flag surrender and almost winning, is doing it proud tonight with that rare time being shutout.
yes im gonna smash that joke of a flag off that statue

First game home from a roadie is always tough.

I see the same people who harped about how bad this team is now complaining about their record. I mean, I thought this was a shitty team when all healthy? I'm not surprised in the least with the injuries piling up the team is running out of gas.

I don't know, am I the only one who really doesn't care about this season? f*** covid.
Nope im pretty icy to this year also. I really dont care for this arrangement. Must be weird for the players too at this stage.

Why would you put hamonic on waivers? There are a few Canadian teams that would surely be interested.

The fringe guys were fine and really provided nothing different from the injured guys. Since Febuary 4 the 3 injured guys you listed have been a combined 57-3-3-6 -20.

Boeser/Miller/Hughes all had terrible games today.
