Stanley has had that issue since his OHL days. He's not agile enough so he either backs up all the way to the net or he gets walked.
Stan has a wing span that will allow him to back in a bit - and he doesn't have the lateral movement to be overly aggressive -
I'd assume they will want him to play to his strengths.

If they are asking him to play a game he is not built for, he doesn't stand a chance. Nothing wrong with working on weaknesses but they need to be careful with the message.

I hope he settled down a bit and stops head hunting at every opportunity - he's caught out of position a lot when he does that. 10 of the teams 27 hits in his last game - a bit over board.

Based on Bones press conference today, he said he wants the defense to be up in the play quite a bit more and to skate. Doesn't sound like they're playing to his strengths.

How does he want them to defend? LIke in their own end?

I'm just not sure what to think of the Stanley-Heinola pairing. I just kind of assumed that all 3 of Samberg, Stanley, and Heinola would be split up because I thought they'd be fighting for the same spot.
Right..But it looks like Bowness is putting both Stanley and Heinola in a leaking one-man life raft and watching to see who sinks and who rises to the top..
(I was gonna say “who floats” but we know who already has that covered..)

I'm not convinced the only direction the D are getting was what is said in a presser.

He by and large has the team playing a box plus 1 in our end. So one dmen will engage in the corner while the other stays infront of the net with F1. The other two forwards will complete the box.

I'll be watching as preason unfolds as to what else they use in our end as it will clearly morph Abita depending on the situation.

Just tell me its not a collapsing box on the PK...

That's what I was looking for - thanks for the reply.
I'm hoping Stan takes a step back from his indiscriminate hitting and plays the system - he's getting caught in the corner too many times.

Last chance for some of these guys to show what they've got.

I think Lambert, Nikkanen, Polei, Malot, Maier, Capobianco, Lucius, Lundmark, and Holm are locks for first cut.

They may give Stenlund a longer look and Reichel since he has some nhl experience and I think they have a decision to make there.
I’m surprised that Lucius isn’t getting to play tonight. It would be a shame to only see him in one game.
Hope Lambert gets on more viewing after tonight too.

His reach has never been enough to allow him to pressure a puck carrier, even back against kids in the CHL. He either surrenders easy zone entries and uncontested passes near the net or he gets walked, that's how he's always been and it's what we saw in his other preseason game. He's a defensive liability, always has been and I've seen nothing to convince me that will change.

Pairing Stanley and Heinola seems cruel. Smart though. Will help distinguish the best team player.
