Series Discussion: Jets (C1) vs Blues (WC2) - Western Conference First Round

I don't know this is his 2nd best year goal scoring wise ever. He slowed down a bit down the stretch but at one point he was on pace for 50+. I think he'll be as big a factor as ever. We won't go far if he isn't.

Yeah, I feel this has been his best season in ages.

Given how the prior couple of years went for him point wise I didn't know if he'd be able to reach this level again as he's now in his 30's. Glad to see he still may have another couple years at this level.

I expect everyone to be dialed in. That's the mindset I've gotten from this group all year. They seem to have finally learned their lessons and are ready to take that step. Now they just have to go out and prove it.

Yeah this year feels different. No panic, just lock in and get it done.

I feel like Scheif has been saving another gear for a little while here. We are definitely going to need his best to go on a run, and my two big things I want to see from 55 are his down low control and more of a willingness to shoot the puck.

He's so dangerous with KFC when he's using his frame to box guys out and it allows Connor to dart around close to the net to get a quick shot off. This is going to be a big time recipe for some playoff success. I think he can do some great work down low on bump up shifts going after that Blues' D, especially if Arny can get those match-ups going at home.

In the same breath, easy to say it's hard to be more shot minded when Connor is on your line, but Scheif's release has always been one of my favourite parts of his game. Trust that shot and get pucks on the net, especially with a net front presence like Iafallo/Vilardi on the line. No style points are added out in the playoffs for goals -- get rubber on the net and be direct -- good things will happen.

This is the best 4 line team we have had since we went to the Conference finals . I also think it might be the best coached team in 2.0's fairly short history.

Without a doubt, If we could couple this forward group and coaching with 2018's defence we would be unstoppable. But it's still good and I think we have as good a shot as any to go all the way.

The 2019 Blues were a wagon that had solved their only issue, goaltending, and was rolling into the playoffs against a Jets team that had been floundering since December. It was probably the playoff series I've felt the worst about in the past decade, except for the Knights series where we made the playoffs with 95 points.

The 2025 Blues haven't been the 2019 Blues, and the 2025 Jets haven't been the 2019 Jets.

Yeah I don’t really understand the whole Deja vu thing and the references to 2019. It was 6 years ago. While I appreciate there are some players that played in 2019 on each team, that’s a long time ago and the two teams are different. Don’t get me wrong, I think the blues are good - better than the 3 other wild card teams that qualified for this year’s playoffs and better than a typical wild card team. Just don’t think this is 2019 all over again.

STL has been better under Montgomery however their recent win streak, at least the magnitude of it, was propelled by super soft schedule. The Jets should stomp over them even without one of Vilardi or Ehlers.

I don’t totally disagree with this, but if we don’t just focus on the 12 game win streak and instead zoom out more and expand it to post four nations, I think they were something like 20-4-3 and there were some good teams in there that they played against. I’m more concerned about the 20-4-3 (larger sample size and some good teams mixed in there) than the 12 game win streak (weaker teams).

Yes. And I expect 55 will elevate his game. I’m actually not worried about 55 (or KFC or Morrissey). Scheifele has shown over time that he can be pretty clutch and produce in the playoffs.

Nelly in concert at Canada Life Centre Friday night.

Just found out he grew up in St. Louis & is a major Blues fan.

Should make for an interesting show...

I’ve said all season, as goes 55, so go the Jets. He may not be Captain, but he definitely sets the level of play during a game.

This years Blues really aren't very close to that 2019 team. They are lacking that high end 1C like ROR was in his prime, Schenn was also a damn good 2C and in his prime. They had a tonne of sandpaper in the lineup with guys like Tarasenko, Perron, Schwartz, Maroon, Bortuzzo and Steen. And the biggest factor they had a true #1 D in Pietrangelo.

The 2019 Jets were also in a whirlwind of distractions with the Trouba and Laine situations. Roslovic and Copp also wanting out. It was a weird time.

The Blues aren't nearly as deep as they were in 2019 and the Jets don't have the distractions of 2019.

Hopefully Vilardi is reasonably healthy gonna need him at least at 90% to do anything. Guy is way more important than Ehlers!

Wondering who the unsung hero will be for the Jets in the PO’s!? Barron, AHL Apples, Lowry (again), Iafellow, Needtorideher?

Like I said I think they're a fine team overall, 8-4-3 outside of that streak is still good, OTLs help but really 8 wins/15.

Much like us and the 15-1 start they're not as good as that streak suggests especially considering the opponents they faced which imo got lost in the plot during that streak. They looked helpless against us.

Look at the chronological game-level pts% of teams they faced in that streak vs our 11 game win streak a month or so earlier. Yes 12>11 so definitely longer I'd say our quality of opponent was higher.

Again, not saying they're bad, but the Jets are a different tier above them and should expect a convincing series win.

i know Scheif, Lowry, JMo and Schenn will show up.
I am hoping Helle, Pionk and Perfetti all show up.
