Series Discussion: Jets (C1) vs Blues (WC2) - Western Conference First Round

Jets in 6 or 7. The Blues are a well coached hockey team that will be ready. I’m sure they will be comfortable running either goalie too. They also have some depth. Series not starting until Sunday and then possibly having a 2 day break at some point will be interesting.

It’s going to be important for the Jets to get off to a strong start in this series and not start chasing games.

PP will need to come through in the few chance we get.

Gotta say, Blues fans on HF are cool as f*** and always have been.

(Maybe my opinion will change in a few weeks lol)

They’re great, and a cool bunch indeed

I remember 2018 when we had stastny they cheered us on
In 2019 they were solid about beating us and so I jumped on their bandwagon after (also to cheer them the way they did cheer us the year before - and they ended up winning which was a cool story)

I respect their fan base for sure.

Blues are the best of the wildcard teams but, barring a complete collapse in their game they've played all season, the Jets should take this one in five.

Agreed that the blues are the best of the wildcard teams. That being said, out of all the western conference teams, if it isn’t the Minnesota Wild then probably the blues are the team you’d prefer to play from the rest of the teams that clinched. Would rather play the blues than Dallas, Colorado, Edmonton, LA, or Vegas.

Yes, being rewarded with the Minnesota Wild for winning the top seed in the west would have been nice. But the second best outcome in my view from the teams that made it are the blues.

Gotta admit. I’m a bit worried about Binnington.

Big games & big stages is where he’s good.
He has certainly proven that during his career.

He has not played in Winnipeg much the last few years IIRC. Hofer seems to get most of the starts here. I’m just going off memory and could be wrong.

I have no doubts that he is their go to guy in game #1.

Statistically, I look at the overall stats for the blues and Jets for the whole season and I think we are clearly better. However, the difficult thing to figure out is what to make of the blues games after the 4-nations tournament. It’s a fairly large sample size of games where their record is basically akin to a top seed team (20-4-3). Is that a good representation of what the team became? Or were they just really hot and really the stats for the 82-game season is more representative of their game, rather than the final 30 games or so? Hard to say lol.

Something to keep an eye on here for sure. Might be precautionary with the lead they had tonight. That would be a major blow to them if it's something more than that.

If we are to believe the coach, he’ll be fine and will be there game 1. If he doesn’t play though, that’s a big change to their lineup. One thing I was thinking about re: the Wild is all the games Kaprizov missed - he just came back, makes them a better team. Don’t get me wrong, the Wild are the weaker matchup in my view. Losing Thomas would be a big loss for them. But based on the coach’s comments it seems he’ll be fine…

I still think the Blues record and stats post 4-Nations are artificially inflated by the quality of their competition, there was a LOT of games against non-playoff teams through that entire stretch. A couple wins against contenders but its not like they were battling a tough schedule.
