Series Discussion: Jets (C1) vs Blues (WC2) - Western Conference First Round

a blues fan posted that under montgomery they are 14-14-4 against playoff teams

Interesting. That might give context to my earlier post about what to make of their 20-4-3 post-four-nations run. Will have to look at the teams they played during that timeframe. Trying to figure out if the blues team after four nations are really that dangerous or if they weren’t that much better than their record suggests…

If it's Sunday, we are probably looking at something like this for G1-G4 to avoid their arena conflict.

Sunday (20th) and Tuesday (22nd) in Winnipeg.

Thursday (24th) and Sunday (27th) in St Louis.
They could still do Saturday (19th) and Tuesday (22nd) in Winnipeg and the 24th and 27th in St Louis... Seems pretty arbitrary that their arena schedule can work without any impact from us starting on Saturday.

Yup, likely the plan. Too bad there are no Friday or Saturday games to start off.

This would be fine. I realize they like to have a two game break for the travel after game 2, but this isn’t bad and would make sense to have a Canadian team in game 1 on Saturday

During that stretch they beat Colorado twice, LA twice and Washington once and the rest were against Nashville (three times), Seattle, Vancouver, Anaheim etc.

During that time hey lost to Dallas, LA and Pittsburgh and the Jets x2. We actually bookended it. They started their hot streak after losing to us right after the 4 nations and then we ended it and they lost 3 in a row until tonight.

Perfetti had 5 assists vs the Blues this season, he will be our secret weapon!

Fair point.

We haven’t really seen Cole in his current form in the playoffs yet.

He is a big unknown, we don’t know what we have in him in the postseason other than a solid outing game five versus the Avs last year

He really came into his own the second half of this year for the first time as a Winnipeg Jet

Just did a quick glance at the schedule, I think the Jets have lost 3 games to playoff teams this calendar year (ignoring the Oilers game of course).

2 against the Kings and 1 against the Canes. Every other loss is against a non playoff team. They don't seem to have too much of a problem stepping up for a big game this year.

Something around 14/15 wins. Add one if the Habs count.

Like last year?

That will be my fear until the series is won.
Jets didn't play a wildcard team last year. Don't forget they had an ugly slump in February and then they went on a heater at the end of the season to reestablish their position in the division so one could argue their collapse started much earlier than the playoffs. They really weren't all that good overall in the second half of the season, or even after the 3 goals against streak ended. Not saying the Blues will be easy, of course not. But this team is playing consistently good hockey this season and especially during the big games.

I've seen some fans from their side allude to it but the Holloway injury has been pretty massive. They haven't really been the same since he's been out.

I really like the match-up from a Jets POV with lines and controlling the last change, especially.

I'm sure the Thomas line will see a ton of Lowry early and often as they're really top heavy on that #1 line. That's the bulk of the scoring threat for the Blues.

The Jets' top six is going to see some favorable match-ups, so they really need to tilt the ice, create, and make the Blues pay.

I know Ehlers/Vilardi are massive blows, of course, but the depth of the Jets is the real weapon in this series that can be the key in overwhelming the Blues.

Kudos on your season. I see a lot of you are wondering what to make of this Blues team and many of us Blues fans are wondering how they fare in the PO's as well. I have no idea what they are capable of but I think they could be dangerous. My guess is the Jets win in 6 and Id be happy if the Jets went the distance if so. You guys deserve one. Would be cool to see the first Cup-winning Canadian team since 93 be WPG.

Hope it's a good series with our side coming out of it in maybe 5 likely 6. (with no injuries)

Binny could be a difference maker for you guys if he gets hot, we have all seen what he is capable of when he gets on a roll!

Best of luck!

The Jets have played their best hockey against the best teams.
Steel strengthens steel.

Plus there's no Kevin Hayes to f&ck up our sh%t this time.

I don't see how that is the different maker on when the games in Winnipeg are scheduled? They're going to have an awkward break anyway, give Canada (and Winnipeg, the damn Presidents Trophy winner) a prime Saturday night game
An extra day for our hurt guys isn't a bad thing.
Likely Leafs in the early Saturday game and Oilers late in LA.

I dont want to state the opposite out loud but I'm not afraid of the rematch from 4 nations. Kyle Connor gets his chance at redemption. They have to come to our house and take what's ours, and Mark gets to play this time.
The Blues are good but that isn't Team Canada in front of Binnington.
