Good game overall. More fun to watch than I was expecting on a B2B vs Montreal!

Barron looked awesome. Getting happier with that trade especially with NYR heating up with the potential of that 1st rounder. Samberg needs to stay with the NHL team he’s a breath of fresh air compared to watching most of that D core all year.

Hell for 33 bucks on Fansfirst I might even show up.
$41 on the seat exchange even!

From Brandon area though so likely need to get to $10 before I drive a tractor through a snow storm for a Jets game

I just have a hard time seeing Blake swallow his pride and accept a diminished role and say the loss of the C. Both things I think are necessary to move this thing forward. It might be tough to move him but I think it should be seriously looked at. This is no loner his team, nor should be be catered to any longer.

Mark I was happy with his play the last few, you know he can still be an elite player if his mind is in it. Clearly you need to have a conversation with him and need to know he's onboard and will do what is asked of him next year.
I think your right about Wheeler swallowing his pride - I just don't think he will, and carry a proper attitude. I think he's the problem on this team, as I've posted before, and the Jets record without him in the lineup proves it. Get "rid of him"

As for Scheifele, I think he's more of a follower than a leader, and a strong coach could take control of him, and he could be a big plus for the Jets. He's on a good contract, and he can score. I'd have a "long talk" with him, if I were Chevy and Chipman, before parting with him.

Imagine if the team could continue playing this well without Scheifele and Wheeler. Then add Perfetti to the mix.
And add the big return we could get for Scheifele.
Hmmm.

This calls for a nod to John Lennon…

Imagine there’s no Scheifele.
It isn’t hard to do.
Nothing to kill momentum
And no Blake Wheeler too.
Imagine all the people
Watching wins increase

You hooo

You can say that I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one.
I hope some day you’ll join us
And the conjoined twins will both be gone.
Yes Turtle, I loved John Lennon, and he will definitely go down as one of the few musical geniuses of the 20 th century. There's no doubt about it.

So many bad lost games this season that you just say if only.... most recently the stinker against the Wings that certainly sealed this season. Just a strange year overall. Still like seeing some of our guys look good and also some guys add some points. Go get the win next game, to at least keep that tiny 1 percent chance alive, and ready to let everyone down again with a few low effort throw away games. we want one more let down when you think they are going to go on a run for old times sake. Samberg better then half the D we lost with all year. Whole organization should be kicked to the curb for missing the playoffs and barely playing Samberg and Heinola.

Seemed to have an awful lot of jump in their game tonight -
I'd almost call it enthusiastic - I have a theory but will leave it for now.

A really hot goaltender kept this one close - I like watching a Jets team that wants to win and shows it on the ice.
Encouraging . . .

Does the theory involve being free of captain intensity and a the first mate with a penchant of going through the motions?

Barron really seized an opportunity playing up in the lineup tonight. It was nice to see. I hope to see more of it from him. Winning is certainly better than losing. Dam the draft position. Nice work from Samberg too.

I don't recall us diving for pucks as much as tonight. Not sure what that was the result of but the effort was really good

Were there some warts tonight? certainly but a win is a win.

I honestly think Wheeler's intensity wears on his teammates. We see him being short and confrontational with reporters, I imagine he can get up in his teammates faces a lot. He even alluded to being too intense of a leader a few years back.

I just had a thought on this. Coaches with that type of in your face intensity like Torts have a short shelf life in this league. You got to wonder how players deal with that when it's a teammate. I can't imagine it's all that fun to be around when the team is losing. You have to wonder if the team is just happy to be away from that intensity and just go out and play and have fun. Even Mark looked to be having more fun with Blake out.

I also think Mark is much more of a follower myself. One of the reasons I'd be looking to move Blake first and see what Mark could do with a new coach and new team leadership.

5-0 without Scheifele and Wheeler is great and all but 3 of the wins came from teams below them in the standings, only one of them (Nashville +26) actually has a positive goal differential on the season and the goal differential for the four teams combined have a -97 goal on the season.

26 and 55 are not team players.
Simply put, the Jets are unbeaten with them out of the lineup.
For all the points they put up, they give up far more.
Not leaders.
I hope Chevy unloads them like Minny unloaded Parise and Suter.

You know just because you say they aren’t team players doesn’t make it true.

People are legitimately using a 4 game sample and one singular game to prove their point.

Hell the 7 games after Wheeler and Scheifele came back from Covid the Jets went 5-1-1, weird how the Jets managed to get points in 6 of 7 games with them in the lineup if clearly the only reason the Jets went 4-0 in the previous four games was because Scheifele and Wheeler weren’t playing.

The jets beat the second worst team in the league playing their third string goalie that has been outscored by 87 goals on the season, they have the worst goal differential in the entire NHL.

The Jets were a “better” team without Enstrom back in the day the same way Pittsburg is a “better” team without Crosby.

The Penguins prior to the start of this season were 33-15-8 without both Crosby and Malkin in the lineup. Not leaders. I hope Hextall unloads them.

Kinda hyperbolic, but I understand your point. I think all of us can agree we're frustrated with this season as a whole. People right now are needing to place the blame on what they consider the problem is. The problem though is not placed on a sole factor (i.e 55 & 26) but the team as a whole. We very much need a shake up for next season.

Agree that this "better team with/without " argument is kind of specious. BUT this team does play noticeably DIFFERENT when Wheeler and Scheifel are not in the lineup, and most definitely, not in a bad way!

The difference, which you fail to see, is Crosby and Malkin have led the Penguins to a playoff spot, unlike 26 and 55. I hope you can understand that.
Don't forget the Stanley Cups they also won with them , we haven't even gotten to a Stanley Cup final with Scheifele and Wheeler . I don't think all the blame for this season is on only Scheifele and Wheeler but at some point you have to change things up if it's not working. All i know is if i was Chipman i'd be pissed that i spent to the cap and didn't even make the playoffs and as we all know everything is about money.

I'm very impressed with this Barron guy so far. He scored a beauty of a goal, on a great assist from Ehlers, so he has nice scoring hands. He's also quite big, and likely will be just ideal for the Jets, being very young. I believe he also had an assist as well, giving him 2 points in his first Jets NHL game - very impressive. Also I read he was the runner up for the Hobey Baker award, for US college, so many scouts thought there was a lot of talent there. This guy could be a real game changer if he works out.

The Jets need to begin now to start guys like Samberg, Barron and Chisholm, and if some of them work out, then move out some of our high paid defenseman, and hopefully get rid of Wheeler as well, which won't be easy.
