They won't. Haven't changed a thing in 5 years.Good analysis from John Mitchell and the Altitude crew as it pertains to the power play. The book is out on what made their PP so successful early on and the scouts are just too good to not change and adjust. Pretty much exactly what we've been saying for weeks now. Let's see if the coaching staff can take a hint for once.
Yeah, it was basically one of our better games from back in the Yip, Galiardi, Arnasson, O'Brien, and Stuart days. The Avs have entirely too much talent and too much money tied up in that talent to lay eggs for any prolonged period of time.I agree, I thought they were better than some of their lifeless performances as of late, but they didn't play well. Still lots to be desired. Lot of hope plays, lot of passengers, lot of bad passes, lots of lost puck battles. Overall not awful, but not great either.
Unfortunately, it's not just the PP that has been over scouted at this time. There's a reason the Avs have so many of their shots blocked, and why they struggle a lot of the time to really get established in the offensive zone. Some of it is the personnel, but a lot of it is that their "system" is really predictable and teams have figured it out.Good analysis from John Mitchell and the Altitude crew as it pertains to the power play. C Hunts?I thought they played hard and showed a lot of heart. The problem is that they are just Pejorative Slured.
If I'm CMac I shake up the coaching staff (even if it's just the assistants) before I give up on Mitts without getting a legit 2C back.CMac has done a lot of good things, but the biggest mistake of his is not re-signing Kadri. Mitts really looked like he could be the answer at 2C, but now it’s RyJo situation again. Giving up assets to fix the position, then having to find a taker for a trade. Don’t think we have to give up a 1st for someone to take Mitts though, but it’s still headed to another failed attempt to fix the 2C while we gave up a pretty good player in Byram.
I look at it as baby steps. Your criticism is valid, but every team goes through some lows in the season. Vegas just lost to bottom feeders for the entire last two weeks at home and nobody is complaining about them. Was that the same excuse we had against Montreal, Chicago, Winny on the 11th, Oilers, Wild (again on the 20th). This team was winning one and losing one until tonight. Now they've lost two in a row.
Anyone looking to excuse this is not actually interested in winning a championship.
Not going to judge him in Buffalo because it's Buffalo, but it could be a placement issue on the PP with him. He seems like somebody who needs the Mikko Rantanen spot to be effective, but Avs ain't going to give him that because that is Mikko f***ing Rantanen's spot lol. The half wall, where he can use his vision and playmaking ability to make cross-crease passes, tip passes, or one-timer passes much better than Rantanen who just forces plays all the effin' time. I called the CM trade a solid trade, but I never claimed it as great/excellent and that's because the bloke has engagement issues. It prevented him from being a PPG in Buffalo, it caused Buffalo to trade him, and it is causing the fanbase to turn against him here (rightfully so). However, I do think the talent is there to turn it around, you don't go from how he played last season and its playoffs, to opening the season as he did this year, to end up being a ghost for long portions of the game the last two months. Bednar putting him all over the place isn't doing anything great either.I actually think Mittelstadt throughout his career has been a horrible PP player, both Buffalo and here.
The PP is letting this team down for sure, but that’s not on Bednar. He doesn’t run the PP, and I don’t think he’s gonna tell CMac to fire his assistant. They just gotta figure the PP out. Try shooting instead of always trying to make cute passesIf I'm CMac I shake up the coaching staff (even if it's just the assistants) before I give up on Mitts without getting a legit 2C back.
I really don't know what happened to Mitts (injury?) but he's shown he can play. He's just fallen off a cliff.
The depth of this team is being exposed badly right now.Yeah, it was basically one of our better games from back in the Yip, Galiardi, Arnasson, O'Brien, and Stuart days. The Avs have entirely too much talent and too much money tied up in that talent to lay eggs for any prolonged period of time.
It is absolute beyond time for CMac to do something to adress this. Yes, he fixed the goalies but that has only allowed us to see the real rot on the team. I personally don't believe it's the players, I believe it's the coaching and the system that are the problems. I am willing to bet that any coach not named Sacco could do better. In fact, I'd be willing to take Granato back if Q, Gallant, or Bruce B don't want the job.
The PP is a glaring issue but it's not the only one. Bednar needs to find a way to spark the bottom of his lineup. I know injuries have been a constant issue, but it can't be an excuse forever. Not making that work was the end of this team. He just fit here so well.CMac has done a lot of good things, but the biggest mistake of his is not re-signing Kadri. The bottom of lineup is so f***ing bad it's not even funny. The PP is a glaring issue but it's not the only one. Bednar needs to find a way to spark the bottom of his lineup. Not making that work was the end of this team. He just fit here so well.
Losing him, Landy and EJ has killed the locker room.
Agreed. There is a lot missing from that locker room and it's very obvious.Cogliano, Helm, and Jack Johnson were also important locker room leaders.
Serious question... where does Landy fit in this good 'ol boys hierarchy?People need to remember that this team's front office epitomizes the "old boys club" mentality of this league. CMac is Sakic's boy. Bednar is Cmac's boy. Bennett and Pratt are Bednar's boys. They won a Cup together. We'll sooner see a Cale trade than we will a major coaching change. And the season hasn't been such an abject disaster that there's enough fire from fans and the media to push anything in that direction. This is what we're stuck with.
We just have to hope that the players can fix the PP on their own somehow, that guys get healthy and then trust in CMac make some shrewd moves to make this team deep enough for a legitimate run. But as of right now, this ain't it. Not even close.
This is the kind of positivity I trust the forum for.Not making that work was the end of this team. He just fit here so well.

This game isn't the problem. It's the lifeless performances against teams like Chicago, NYR, and Minny that are the problem. This is the kind of positivity I trust the forum for.
We lose in OT to the top of the league in a tight game where they score one on a pure lucky bouncer.
I thought we played well and it sucks to lose the way we did. But we ain't dead.

It’s been ice cold for some time and our guys are over complicating things. A lot of forced passes and guys gripping sticks too hard, not getting shots through. It’s to the point that when they do get the opposition moving and create a good shooting lane, they pass up the opportunity. Can’t speak to how different yours is but most here want them to simplify and just shoot shoot shoot. Oh and our zone entry only consists of a drop pass to Mack for the carry-in.Jets fan coming in peace to ask why you guys are so hung up about your PP? I know ours is top in the league but we didn't even capitalize on it tonight. Thought yours looked fine. Is ours even that different? We haven't even scored a PPG in the past 4.
