I want Sather to look into dealing Staal, see what his value is around the league. See what Staal+ can get you. Hell, see if Staal+Hagelin can get you a young 1st line center.

Our D afterwards:

McD-Girardi
MDZ-Stralman
John Moore-Falk/McI

It's a good group.

Edit: Possible center I'd personally would look at that I think are realistic targets:

Galchenyuk
B. Schenn

Less likely but would love to have:

N. Backstrom (pipedream)
RNH
Matt Duchene (pipedream)
Ryan Johansen

I don't think Galchenyuk is a realistic target.

The only team that would be willing to pay a premium for Staal are the Carolina Hurricanes.

Last year, the Hurricanes were prepared to offer Jeff Skinner straight up for Marc Staal.

Right now, I'm not sure the Hurricanes, or anyone else in the NHL would offer anything more than a fourth round pick and a bag of used pucks for Staal.

Uh oh. Half this board is already having aneurysms about toughness. Imagine if we brought a figure skater in. :help:

I really was hoping that the Canucks game was a start of something. They changed the lines and I really thought the Stepan line plus a decent D and favorable schedule will have us go on a run. What a fool I was. I was ready to get rid of a good amount of the team after the Boston game, now I'm back to that. I really want to make some wholesale changes. Trading DZ won't get you enough. This team is rotten.

Luke DeCock, Raleigh News & Observer.

Discussed on the Hurricanes radio shows, and all over their message boards.

I live down here. It was more than a Eklund rumor. It was a pretty hot topic of discussion.

The Hurricanes are all about marketing. They wanted to get all the Staals and market it, and were willing to overpay to do it. Hell, even Rutherford was quoted as such.

I've watched hockey for over 25 yrs, and i've seen every game Del Zotto has played. He can't play defense. He loses his man and his assignment night after night.

I guess AV is scratching him for no reason? Yet i'm accused of having an agenda?

Don't you feel so secure in the Rangers' future knowing that Gordie Clark is blowing first round draft picks on mooks like Sanguinetti and Del Zotto? Maybe after McIlrath and Skjei bust he will be sent packing, but I wouldn't count on it, since there's no accountability at MSG.

If it doesn't turn around towards the end of this lengthy homestand, changes will have to be made.

Right now AV inherited a room of guys that obviously have some sort of comfort zone there right now. This needs to be broken.

If there was a way to drop Pouliot and get back Avery, who most likely isn't in game shape, I'd still do it.

We need something out there. Something.

You do have an agenda. You are in threads at every opportunity ranting about MDZ. You've flipped about MDZ in games where he didn't even play. You delight in every mistake (even the ones that don't exist) and you try to minimize every success. We get it. You don't like the kid. It doesn't make you "smarter" or a more careful observer.

Think for a minute. You are set on blaming a defenseman for three goals--one that took multiple odd deflections to get to a player. Another that literally seemed to flutter into the goal in slow motion (IMO the softest goal we've seen this year). And a third that was (and I can't believe I even have to point out the idiocy of this) an EMPTY NET GOAL.

AV was benching Del Zotto because he can't play the right side. Frankly, I'm amazed it took AV as long as it did to realize that, since we all saw last year that he can't play his off side. On the left, he plays solid defense and does a great job leading the rush and passing out of the zone.

You have posted in this thread that we should take a kid who was top 20 in Norris voting (in his last full season as a LD) and make him into a forward. You have posted that you don't even think we could move him now (because you know, 23 year old defenseman who put up 35+ points on a regular basis are just dime a dozen these days :shakehead ).

You have an agenda. Why? No idea, but it's as clear as the sky is blue.

Ha. I can't help but laugh at how off this is. AV inherited a lot of things but a country club atmosphere wasnt one of them. If anything, his hiring and the GMs message helped usher one in.

The ideal return from Carolina would be Faulk, but I don't see them giving him up. That being the case, I would love to see Sather try and get Elias Lindholm over here.

Why is Kreider a keeper and Stepan isn't?

Stepan is a poor skater, a horrible faceoff man, and doesn't show up for big games. He hasn't taken any steps to improve the holes in his game and lacks drive and toughness (physical and mental). No team having to rely on DStep will ever win anything.

Nice someone else getting responses like this. I get to sit one out for a day.

Lindholm and McGinn for Staal?? Brock McGinn is the younher brother of Tye McGinn and Jamie McGinn.

I was at the game tonight. Ive read 15 pages of nonsense from the GDT and this thread. Does no one realize MDZ was -3? I can honestly say, more than anyone else, he cost us this game. Awful defense. Dude looks like hes lost out there. Has no idea where he's supposed to be.

Also still cant hit the net, make tape to tape passes or keep the puck in the zone. Hes been "developing" for 5 years.

I don't think a center like Lindholm is what this team needs. What we need is a center that makes his linemates better. Can't get away with having mediocre wingers on this team because of it.

Like the U.S World Juniors Team? We don't win gold without Stepan. What are you talking about?

Game Summary:

Olli Jokinen walked in and punched us in the dick. The End.

Agree 100% on this. I hate Stepan as a hockey player.
