gawd damn did you have to use the gIF

I legitimately double checked to see if there was a “Risto Ristolainen” that was an up-and-coming prospect in the Flyers system.

OP this is a brutal proposal. I’ll go easy on you because I love your avatar! (That town holds a special place in my heart.)
Was up there a couple of years ago and had to go see Flinty.

Honestly not even sure I like the proposal, but I'm thinking with having J-Mo and Pionk we don't need another smallish d-man, so basically thinking Ville for another d-man but one with some size, especially now with Samberg out.

This makes no sense from a Jets POV, VH has gotten two early season injuries last two years, current coach is very high on him. No chance this happens
This.

Arniel tends to really value smart puck moving by his D. Heinola has a chance to fit in well. Risto doesn't fit the style.

Why would anyone want Ristolainen?

Never thought i'd say this, but he's got to the point now where his reputation has plummeted below his actual ability. He was one of the worst players we've ever had for a good long while but under Torts he's turned into a relatively responsible player. The advanced stats could disagree with me, but the eye test isn't bad these days.

The advanced stats don’t disagree. He’s a top 4 dman now. He’s even played spot duty on the top pair due to injury and has done very well.

With a smart puck moving partner I think he would be an excellent 3rd pair guy who could move up and play #4 for a bit if you absolutely had to. How is he on the PK? Above below average?

The problem I see and I think I said this in another thread is that with the extra years on his deal unless PHI is willing to eat 50% and possibly even find another partner to do double retention his value isn't much above a 2nd / 3rd and a B level prospect. If they hold him and move him in the summer of 26 with one year left they probably get about the same back in a trade and don't tie up a retention spot plus they get the benefit of a decent player next year. If PHI had guys ready to go that they needed to get NHL reps then I guess that might change things but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Good indicator of someone that follows NHL closely and someone who saw charts of him 3 years ago.

There's certainly teams that don't have cap space for his (too rich) contract, and some stylistic restrictions but Risto 2.0 is pretty effective. By advanced metrics he's been a positive goals and expected goals contributor worth about 1-2 wins a season. Players escaping 2010s Sabres and becoming better is a tale as old as time..

I wouldn't be opposed to Heinola being involved in a Jiricek trade
CBJ sure as hell would

Heinola has less value than Risto for sure

Advanced stats agree with you, and to be quite honest you can tell by the replies in this thread who actually watches hockey and who is going off reputations from years ago.

Risto is a very solid 3/4 right now
