Spent waaaaay too much on tickets to take my family to the game but I thought, what the hell, you only live once and my kids are growing up way too fast.

WOW what a game to be at, we will remember that one forever.

That was prime offensive Avs thats for sure. Boy can that team fly when you let them. On the flip side our stars made lots off good “offensive plays” too. It was just a weird game where it got going T2T and their goalie was so leaky our guys didn’t want to quit pushing and taking changes to score.

I turned to the guy beside me and said I had no idea they gave us these white towels so we could wipe our butts in case we shat our loons from nerves. He found that funny.

The atmosphere was so phenomenal in both outdoor spaces and in was totally 2018 in the building all over again. My 12 year old daughter’s first white and she was so thrilled.

I thought Stan got a bit challenged by the pace and I think I would swap him out for a vet next game that would maybe calm things down. It’s a tough team for him to handle speed wise. Better to get Samberg on his natural side with a partner that is a vet IMO.

Bones will get the guys back into more structure next game. Full marks to Colorado though, they were flying when they weren’t self destructing in their own zone.

Wild and wacky but oh so much clenched fun.

I don't see a situation where you take Toffoli out. He will be a factor in this series.

He's not coming out unless he gets hurt but he really hasn't been a factor in the playoffs for a bit now. Two goals and five points his last 13 playoff games.

I really don't know what to expect from him besides very middling play and point totals.

I think second goal Stan is already there for a quick outlet pass. Instead of passing it to him Samberg tries to go up middle, by time Stan can react puck is already in the net.
I thought that two.. the the forechecker is crashing the boards hard to cut off that pass - he's right between Stan and Samberg... Stan needs to re-position - all around a bad shift for the twin towers. Samberg had a chance to clear and didn't succeed - thats how it starts.

Since we only scored one TD we might want to insert Perfetti into the lineup for a bit more offense.
Also can our DB's play a little tighter to the Av's receivers?
Helle needs to blitz more from his spot.

If there are 13 goals scored on Tuesday night I fear we will come out on the short end.

Show of hands for anyone who thought before the game the score would be 7-6.

Well we took one in a good old fashioned barn burner.

We're gonna need to tighten up though and get back to doing what got us here. Avs made us play their game and we won. We are playing with fire if we keep doing that.

I'm sure the excitement and nerves got to the boys tonight, who wouldn't be rattled in front of that crowd? But now that game 1 jitters are out, it's time to clamp down and play Jets hockey.

Helle is having a lot of trouble seeing pucks, Avs are screening him hard, D needs to be more active in policing the net front. Jets D need to clean up their breakouts, a lot of sloppy passes. Avs had some great sticks that game, knocking a lot of pucks down to keep pressure on. We're gonna have to slow the game down and make the smart plays. Lots to like about how our offence responded this game, lots to dislike about breaking away from our structure.

Either way we won, let's get #2.

What would be score if Jets put some more shots on goal 🥅
That’s what we need to see next game.
Go Jets Go!

Just got home. That was one crazy ass game. We won a barnburner, time to reign it in and get back to Jets hockey. But it was pretty entertaining to watch. Just don't do it again
Bones probably pulled a Lou Brown from the movie Major League when Wille Mays Hayes makes the basket catch..."Nice game boys. Don't ever f_____n' do it again."

There was a couple of drunk Avs fans a few rows behind us. The guy wearing a MacKinnon jersey wipe out on the aisle steps, HARD. Landed directly on his ass, both elbows too, on the cement. I could feel his pain, his coccyx is going to be in rough shape when he sobers up.

I've bruised my tailbone snowboarding. You're right, it's a pain in the ass (haha) and you really feel it day+1. And it takes forever to heal.

I was so pissed off at Appleton on that play. Right off the faceoff an Avs player did something to him because he was on his hands and knees for a few seconds and was clearly wounded. When he got up he looked really pissed off and in true Flinstones fashion I yelled out “don’t do it Len” when you could see him heading over to exact revenge. I f***ing knew they were going to call him on the retaliation because that is how refs roll, because he lacked discipline and didn’t take a license plate number he cost us a goal and that let the Avs right back in that game.

It was a horseshit play and if he wasn’t on the 3rd line he should have been benched. The rest of the criticism of the refs everyone can have at it but Apples f***ed up.
It's interesting how different your reaction to this play was than mine. When I saw it unfold, I texted my friend "even up penalty". There's no way the refs call that if the Avs hadn't had the penalty deficit. I guess maybe you should play aware of that, but on the other hand if you play soft whenever you're up with the lead and penalty call advantage, you ain't playing playoff hockey, and the refs will probably find a way to even it up anyway.

But that's just from viewing it once from the TV camera angle, maybe if I watched again I'd see it differently.

That was like the scariest horror movie from when you were 12 years old.

Stan was a nice surprise at the end of the year but I did notice in the last two RS games that his play was slipping from noticeably good to the other side of the ledger. Like most of our players he looked nervous and slow early on. If playing Samberg on the wrong side is hindering his game then perhaps going back to Samberg/Schmidt is the way to go. They had a hell of a run together earlier in the year.

I was shocked that Toffoli didn't pass to Ehlers in the slot in the first. Tyler had the puck with all kind of space and time and I believe in his shot but Ehlers was so open and you could see he had a ton of net to look at.

I have a ticket for Game 2 so I'm praying for a win. (like we all are).

Clog it up, play defence and let George poop the bed for us!!!

I'm back to posting my own post-game thoughts - just not on Twitter, doing it on BlueSky in an attempt to slowly move away from the hate-machine.

Quick thoughts as I peruse this thread: the Avs had both a lot of odd-man rushes and sustained pressure from bad breakouts or attempts at clearing the zone - and that's how they poured on a ton of shots on Hellebuyck (73CA at 5v5 alone!!!), although not many of them high-danger (until it was special teams).

The first can be cleaned up by ensuring the 3F isn't hesitating when they are supporting their pinching defence. I saw so many instances of players beginning a curlt the blueline thinking a Pionk or Morrissey or DeMelo (or whoever) was going to keep the puck in and they could get into the open-ice in the slot - only for it to not happen and for COL's speed to kill them through the neutral zone. Maybe we can attribute this a lot to nerves, as I have heavy doubts that Bowness would intend for that kind of play in his system (for players not named Scheifele or Connor, of course).

The bad breakouts and failed attempts at clearing the defensive zone are the same problem - COL's fast on their forecheck and the Jets fail at presenting options for their defencemen. The middle of the ice is wide-open, but good luck finding a Winnipeg player there ready for a one-touch reception-and-pass to get out of the zone, and instead throwing it to an Avs player instead (or attempting to clear it off the boards - which just ends up hitting an Avs player, and again giving them possession). I expect the 5-4 pairing to be better as maybe Dillon's got his goal of hitting everything that moves in this game, so that Pionk isn't his usual chaotic self. 2 needs that forward option to pass to, whereas 44 can escape pressure himself (more often than not). The 64-54 is where you need to insert Schmidt or Miller instead of Stanley - 64 had a nice little streak going but he's not looked good for three straight games including tonight, and was exposed by the Avs by forcing Samberg to make the plays instead from his off-hand.

Finally: agree with folks that Toffoli wasn't great, especially when he's taking shots like these. The 27-23-73 line is the obvious mismatch for COL's deteriorating depth - yet they didn't manage much against a trio of Wood-Colton-Kiviranta and got outshone by Mittelstadt and his line (who absolutely eviscerated the 81-55-13 line and both 44-2 and 5-4 pairings). This line is primed to be the difference maker, IMO - if everything else goes "according to plan", then it's 27-23-13 that should be scoring. Can't count on Lowry to always outscore MacKinnon, nor for Namestnikov's (and his line's) only 5v5 slapper to be a goal. (They should replace Gustafsson for Perfetti, btw.)
