Stan is what he is. Ville may develop into a useful PMD but it’s a position the Jets don’t really need now or in the near future — especially with a likely Pionk re-signing.
Please no. We do not need another aging high dollar contract, especially on another smaller defenseman. Let someone else pay for Pionk to age out.

I love me some nose crinkles, but I'm open to the idea of letting Neal walk, IF we strengthen our right side.

The guy really does love Winnipeg and gives his all which is not nothing.

Eric gets paid to be a backup and should be counted upon to win a few games here and there, even/especially divisional games.
He’s played ok but he needs to win more.
Helle again is playing a shit ton of games and we can only hope he has some fuel left in his tank for post season.
Anyone else concerned that history is repeating itself?
No, not even close. Too many factors have changed, both within our team and across the rest of the league. For example, look at where the Avs are this season, major shift from last season.

Besides, I'm looking forward to us going deep in the playoffs.

I think at this point it is clear the LHD pecking order is Morrissey, Samberg and Fleury with Stan and Heinola fighting it out for injury fill in scraps. The bigger question is if Chevy tries to land a player that pushes Fleury down.

Based on how it went when we were healthy earlier in the season, I think Stan is still in over Fleury, presumably for size/physicality. Before Samberg was hurt Stanley was playing and Fleury was in the PB. When Sam got hurt, they didn't try Stan further up. They went immediately to Fleury on the 2nd pair.

Just because Fleury is more suited to fill in on the 2nd doesn't mean they will prefer him on the 3rd. Earlier, when Stan was out, Fleury showed himself to be a more skilled Dman, but as soon as he was healthy, Stan was back in.

Though I agree with you, I think the Jets want Stan in the bottom pairing regardless. They know Stan can’t play top 4 minutes, so Fleury moved up, but Stan is their choice for bottom pairing.

Therefore if everyone is healthy, I think they see the LHD pecking order as:

Morrissey
Samberg
Stanley
Fleury
Heinola

Question is who do they waive to send to the Moose when everyone is healthy.

Coghlan has passed through waivers already. He can be sent down without waivers.

I’m going to disagree with you on this point my friend.
A starter is your best goalie, you count on him to give you the best chance to win on any given night.
Your backup should not be filler and a Hail Mary guy.
Workloads should be managed carefully to avoid overwork or injury because of a larger load.
If you can’t trust your backup to handle these games then I think you have a larger problem overall.
Comrie hasn’t been terrible….but in some games he’s prone to giving up cheap goals and like every player or team he’s judged on win/loss.
This team goes as Hellebucyk goes.
Comrie needs to win a few more, as Helle is out of gas by season’s end.
I’d rather see us go into the playoffs with a rested Helle and not trying to blow our brains out for regular season glory.
It hasn’t worked out before and it won’t work out again.

I get the feeling we're talking about two different things here.

You wrote: "Anyone else concerned that history is repeating itself?" I replied that too many things were different this year, including the Avs being weaker, for history to repeat itself. And you replied to that by discussing goalies and backups.

While I agree with everything you said about Helle and Comrie, I don't know how that relates to history repeating itself. I think history will be changed this year and we will go deep into the playoffs.

I'll take the wins, but it's this year's playoffs that I'm focussed on. We've won lots of games in the past and fizzled out in the first round. This year, we're gonna go deep.

Playoff history 2.0, how we exit:

Ducks we lost the last 4 strait

Vegas we lost the last 4 strait

Blues WE DID NOT lose the last 4 strait (WOW)

Montreal we lost the last 4 strait

Vegas we lost the last 4 strait

Avs we lost the last 4 strait.

Our core has Fragile Franky syndrome. None of them are capable of getting up off the mat when they have been knocked down.

That being said I hope you are right but I don’t care all the much. I am at piece with the fact we are not built for the playoffs. We have a pretty dam good regular season team.

In there we beat the Preds in a game 7 on the road.

That was the spectacular high point of our 13 year 2.0 playoff history. A truly memorable moment in a great series. I was mostly reporting on when we exit, how we exit. That season was a glorious outlier even though we eventually folded but maybe this core has one run in them who knows. Honestly, if it happens it happens, if it doesn’t it doesn’t.
