Post-Game Talk: Jets 4 - Habs 1

Not surprising slow start, this team likes to have the goalie dialed in early. And he was.

Really lackluster 1st period, and then the 4th line goes out with a big momentum shift that is followed up by a top line goal.

I imagine something was said in the 2nd period, and the team just came out playing the right way.

I think the boo birds never work, just makes a player know he can make the fans boo them even more with a good play or two.

Have to give Gus a lot of credit, sit in the PB over half the year and comes out with a 4 game point streak. He was drafted as a Lowry type player, and there are signs of it in his game. Barron to me is the catalyst on the 4th line with his skating, and checking, everybody else follows. That's maybe the best hit I've seen all year.

I think defense and goaltending are the two biggest weaknesses on the Canadiens. They can't matchup anyone defensively when you have guys like Hutson, or Carrier, or Xhekaj that all have their struggles defensively on 3 different pairings. Losing Guhle had a big impact in this game, he's maybe their best complete defenseman.

Do you think the 3 power plays to none was done to stop the chatter?

It's okay because Fleury is really fast (when he's not lying on his belly in the slot.)
Flurry is fast and half-decent two ways and will improve. Standby is what he is and is lucky to have Flurry cover his sphincter releases and clean up any residual fecal matter. Stan has an occasional slapper that does damage, but we should pray he gets that going along with better D which could only help his value in a trade package.
Nice guy though, and I wish him well.

I really like the way Barron is playing during this middle stretch of the season. That hit tonight was straight up murder. He is a huge reason along with Gus and A I that the 4th line is playing the way they are
I definitely agree that the 3 guys on the 4th line are a huge reason for why that line is playing the way they are.

4/5 Rounds of Musics for this lovely game.

Fixed it for you. 600 rounds per minute when chambered in 9mm Parabellum, more than enough for the Flabs.

Scott's decisions with the 3rd pairing are gonna bite the Jets at the worst time I fear. Stanley being the #5 d-man and Fluery being ahead of Miller is baffling. With the current deployment even a trade won't get Stanley out of the lineup.
He kills offensive play momentum and enables other teams to stay in the Jets dzone. He is a complete liability. Sure, I hear he is a likeable dude and I am sure he is, but I dont know how Arneil and Chevy are watching this and somehow think he is helpful. Arneil said that as long as Lowry is out, Stan stays in. This is purely for the physical prescence, but Stan doesnt actually contribute anything meaningful in that area. So he is a Sheriff that is supposed to go out and get his ass kicked if someone takes a run at a teammate? Thats his role? So I agree, it will bite us at a bad time

The last few days finally caught up with me last night and I fell asleep and missed the game entirely, so I can't comment on how they did other than they won.

The Prediction Contest against the Boston Bruins has been posted for your guesses. A big "Thank you very much" to @Ludwig Fell Down who will be posting the next GDT, it is much appreciated and we are all looking forward to it. See you on Thursday! Take care...

Sick as hell in Mexico but loving the win. Beating the Habs is always enjoyable for avoiding the pain of their gloating if nothing else.

Crazy that Connor and Scheif are both at 29 goals and we are still in January. Keep it rolling.

I noticed We complain way less about the officials on our board when the other team is getting screwed. If the penalties were 3-0 against us this thread would have exploded.

Great way to start the road trip.

So how are we judging players?

I could have sworn last year when we were talking about CSV vs ESV GF% was the biggest stat, maybe followed by xGF%?

Can we agree in advance so goalposts don't get moved all over the field?

Always lead with the strawman.
How can it be a strawman if we haven't even started arguing lol. A strawman is when you start arguing a point that isn't the point that was being debated. In other words, you can't lead with a strawman

I'm just trying to figure out what point will be debated

But I see that you're uncomfortable entering into a discussion where the goalposts are unmovable

How do you think we should judge the players? Maybe we can start there and build a bit of a consensus here
Personally, I think we should use all tools available to build a throughout assessment of players... both eye test and stats.

But if we're going to use stats, I'm trying to avoid the tendency that a bunch of posters have where they cherry pick the ones that confirm their bias.

It's very frustrating to be told that "player x" or "player combination y" is good or bad based on a certain stat, but when that same stat is used to evaluate a different player or combination of players, posters are always "well, yeah, BUT....."

I get that.

Sometimes it is a bit onerous to have to put together half an hours worth of compiled stats instead of the highlights when making a point. But if people are leaving out stuff that doesn't suit the argument that is different.

Curious how you would start though when it comes to the stats

Don't need arithmetic to figure out who is playing good and not playing good, i use my eyes..... :naughty:
