Does anyone have any idea how that Avs unit does against other teams top lines? I'm kinda curious, but also kinda too lazy to dig too deep lol

At the end of the day, when can we say "they dominate us when they're on the ice because they're just better players?"

Avs top line > any line we can ice

BUT

Our depth up front > their depth up front
Helle > their goalies

So if they want to beat us, they need to hope that their top line domination holds and our depth doesn't contribute and Helle shits the bed. That's EXACTLY what happened in April

We won't beat that team by Schief beating Mack head to head
And that's exactly how we beat Edmonton. The difference is Col has more beef on their top line and are more aggressive

Nothing unpopular about that, it's just reality

I've been wondering what our results will look like once everything comes back to earth. I think our SV% should stay in the upper 10% of the league, but not sure about the SH%. I think historically as a team, we've generally been one to be outshot and still win because we've been able to shoot at a higher percentage than our opponents (duh lol) - both because of Helle on one side of the equation, and we seem to score from high danger spots more often
It may come as a shock to some people when the Jets don't go 81-1-0...but it's still on the table!

The Jets are currently shooting 14.19% at all strengths. The best shooting teams over the past 5 years have averaged just under 12%. The Jets average over the past 5 seasons is just under 10%.

On the SV% side, the Jets are currently at .925. The top teams over the past 5 years have averaged .922, and the Jets 5 year average is .912.

So yeah, running hot on both SH% and SV% but not out of this world. The Jets goaldiff right now if we use their 5 year averages is 44-35 +9, 55.7 GF% (which would be 9th best in the NHL - but 3rd in the Central behind Minnesota and Dallas).

Saw a tweet about the only other team to get to 13 wins this quickly: the 2007 Ottawa Senators.

Don't look up how they finished.

Why not?
105 pts - OK, a little disappointing after that start but ...
Lost in SCF - not bad.

Edit: Wait, was that the 2007 Sens? Or the Sens in the fall of 2007?

Also it was exactly one game.

I wonder if Arniel and staff will do more of that - potentially rotating different forwards through just to give pp2 a bit more oomph.

Outside of Perfetti there really isn't elite puckhandling/ moving on that second unit.
Nope just Connor to annoy the Ehlers fans who are upset KC gets all them minutes.

3rd in the central is about where I expected this team

Wait a sec

Our best player was the best player on the ice, and it won us the game

Since when do goalies not appear on the official roster? Why do we have to win a specific way for it to be a win that counts?

Avs WEREN'T a better team tonight, because the goaltender is part of the team

Yes ... BUT
We can't count on our goaltender to win a 7 game series like that. He could be really, really good and we lose 2-1.

As it happened last night their goalie also played his best game of the season or we might have scored more than 1. So there is that. But apart from the goaltending, that game looked too much like last year's PO series.

Definitely a better turn out then last year. Especially in the beginning, just above 11k. Baby steps.

Yes, but concerning. Our 12-1 team going in against the team that humiliated them in last PO should be a sellout.

Valid point - sometimes you win because you had a great defensive game, sometimes it's your special teams, sometimes it's your offense - and sometimes it's good goaltending.
The interesting thing about this game was that it was a goaltending battle as much as it was a display of skilled skaters - and the shot count was close between these 2 - this was not as lopsided as it may have looked. I think when a team is winning a lot of games, you expect dominance - and that's not always how you win.

I think the shot count flattered the Jets. Once they got going the Avs were very dangerous whenever they had the puck in our end. Jets were dangerous occasionally but most often not.

That was a nice setup by Nino to Namestnikov? at the end of the 1st that should have went in. Funny that it was Perfetti who sat for Connor if I am not mistaken. The 2nd PP has to have close to the same scoring % as the 1st unit after 14 games, based on ice time. They work the puck down low better than the 1st unit, which works the puck up high more, from my p.o.v.

I've been watching hockey a long ass time and no team I've ever cheered for has gone on a run like this. Mother of God
Only thing that comes close I can think of is 1984 when they finished the season with 10 wins and 3 ties.

Wow I’ve never seen so much negativity about a win. This is the best start to a season IN NHL HISTORY!!

You know the Jets will lose some games this year right?
You wash your mouth out with that filthy talk.

Great game yesterday. As a goalie and coach, I love games like that.

You guys look really sharp this year. Keep it going!
Both goalies looked great yesterday but the team did not play well at all . We did not play great against Utah either but they are not great caliber . We are having problems with our sticks on the puck , fumbling passes , throwing passes into feet and trying to force passes that are not there .

It's great having a strong goalie to cover up from games like this but we have not needed great goaltending for most of the season .

I also love how the Avs play the game and once you get a few more players back you will be rolling again .

Take away the Jets playoff performance last year and lets face it that's when it really counts the Jets are on one hell of a regular season super heater. Keep the wins coming this a ride I don't want to see end.

 Yes. I'd almost forgotten about the 8 game streak to end last season. It was being talked about a lot before the loss to TML. Not much since.

We are 21-1 in our last 22 regular season games!!!!

Obviously there has to be some luck involved in that and it was interrupted by a bad 5 game stretch in the PO. But, no matter how you look at it that is incredible. Even include the PO defeat and we are 22-5 in our last 27 games!

We lack superstars outside of Helle but this is a very good TEAM.

I found your breakouts to be really interesting in the first period.

Almost no forwards in the defensive zone, encouraging both defensemen to skate up with the puck. Two forwards in the neutral zone, usually one on the boards for an easy chip-in play or one rushing through the middle. The third forward high almost cheating offside is what caught my eye. It's very dependent on having D who can make that 20-30 foot pass and being comfortable doing so. If you don't have that, it's going to result in lots of neutral zone turnovers and failed breakouts. You were in behind us a good 4-5 times in the first period alone.

The Avs made an adjustment in the second period, dropping the two defensemen deeper and keeping a third forward low as well. It was a good coaching adjustment and made your breakouts harder. Only one forechecker on the two D breaking out and since you had all 3 forwards out of the zone, there was only the side-to-side D option or forcing it into the neutral zone. The two high Avs forwards were able to get body on body and sticks on pucks after the first pass. This was a key adjustment to stop the huge threat you were introducing in the first period with the third forward high/cheating behind the D.

I also really liked your cycle game for the most part. Tons of close support from the 3 forwards. The wide forward was well inside the hashmarks when the puck wasn't on his side, allowing for this tight, close triangle and one-time passes on the cycle. Most teams keep that third forward in the slot at the most, you had all 3 close together many times. That takes forwards with high IQ who can make the quick passes and read off each other.

Ehlers, in particular, was really doing it well. Since the Avs had to then shift bodies over to cover the 3 forwards close, Ehlers was able to cycle high by the D and use his speed to get over to the open side of the ice. I noticed on almost every high cycle(faceoff dot or higher), he was coming up the blueline with speed to immediately straddle the line and shift focus to the weak side of the zone.

Again, I really enjoyed this game despite my team losing. Solid, and in your case great, goaltending from both sides. Tight checking and coaching adjustments throughout. Had a playoff feel.

We are 13-1, i will say that again 13-1, last night was the first game in the first 14 games that we needed Helly to play well to win . Colorado is a very good team with 2 of the best players in the entire league, some here are expecting too much i think. The Jets are a very good team but they aren't going to play the perfect game 80 times this season.

One thing I noticed from the Avs is their neutral zone coverage was passive, they often gave up the red line easy to protect the blue line as a 5 man unit. Is that typical of the Avs or a way to slow down the speed of the Jets forwards?
