As expected. Had a little bit of a mini-streak early, but he is what he is. And it's not good enough.
He's just not a smart player. Doesn't see the ice well and plays the whole game with his head down. Handles the puck poorly. Doesn't have a particularly great shot. Fast in a straight line, but ponderous and clumsy as heck, completely lacking in agility and the finer points of 4-direction skating. He's an absolute "tweener". Isn't even remotely close to good enough offensively to justify any sort of Top-6/Scoring Line role...but doesn't play with enough consistent intensity, or bring enough to ST/PK, and isn't good at all defensively to play a solid Bottom-6 role. Whatever metrics ever said he was, were wrong, presumably due to some distortion.
There's just not really much place in the NHL for guys like that.
He absolutely got more chances at it than your average guy, due to his draft pedigree though. After this year, it's gotta be back to Europe i'd assume. He can be a top player in Finland in a nice stable situation, still making decent money. Played a decent number of NHL games and will probably play a few more before the season is out...but it's hard to see him getting
another extra chance at this point.
