lol

Don't worry, I'm sure the usual suspects can find someway to pretend Nieto isn't truly horrible and actually deserves to be on the team. There's probably a stat for it.

Lol, of course. Should have checked the roster thread for the Sully circle jerk.

Nieto blocks shots, people…that’s a very special skill — Mike Sullivan, probably

If he is unclaimed and goes to WB then you can follow his progress in that thread.

Yeah, Mike, this whole team just pays tons of attention to whats going on away from the puck.
Lol, &%$@!$%$. That mistakenly got posted for literally seconds while inserting a gif. How the hell someone quote it lol.

For reference-
I asked Mike Sullivan on Nov. 29 in Boston why Puljujarvi kept getting scratched.

"A lot of it is just details," Sullivan told me. "Understanding the team concept, doing his job, whether it be forechecks or rush coverages or D zone coverage. There's a number of different things. But I think Jesse has a good understanding of what the expectations are and how he can help us have success, and how he can have success as as a player on our team. And he and I have had a number of conversations over the course of the season with respect to that. When he's at his best, I think he's a real good puck pursuit guy. He gets in on the forecheck really well, uses his size, uses his reach, leans on people. He's got a little bit of a scoring touch. But a lot of just attention to detail, more specifically away from the puck. And when he plays with that, I think he's an effective player."

I'm glad they finally let him go, but I think it should've been done already a long while ago. Before the doghouse treatment from Sullivan his points/60 was even the 2nd best and then the 3rd best of the team so I believe he could've got something like a 3rd from other teams, maybe even a bit more with a perfect timing, but of course finding the perfect time is not always easy if the team still has some potential plans for the player. But at least it's done now.

Teams aren't paying a 3rd rounder because Puljujarvi had a nice 6 game stretch to start the year.

You may be right or you may be wrong. In his best NHL season Puljujarvi scored goals at the 3rd best rate and ES goals at the 2nd best rate of the team and he did have some great stretches with excellent advanced stats. He hasn't been consistent enough, but it seems his hip problems also played a part. He is a minimum salary player now so I personally think some team could've definitely paid at least a 3rd rounder when he started the season at almost a ppg rate, but of course I could be wrong.

Even now he has scored two goals in his five last games in a small role so I wouldn't be surprised if he's picked from the waivers. We'll see.

Which chunk of games should we use to evaluate Puljujarvi? The six game chunk to start the year where he had a goal and four assists? Or the 10 game chunk that followed where he had a single assist?

Why is the stretch where he scored two goals in five games more valuable than the previous 10 games?

By that logic, Matt Nieto has two assists in his last three games. He's clearly more valuable than the previous 14 when he had a single goal.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Anaheim claimed Puljujarvi on Tuesday. Hawkins gets waived and than claimed by the penguins. The new fourth line of Nieto, Accari and Hawkins and Sullivan is in hockey heaven.
