Most fans consider him untouchable, but with Gustavsson just turning 25 yo and coming off a superb season, do the Wild really need 2 #1 Goalies? At present, the plan for Wallstedt is to spend one more year in the AHL before coming to the NHL.

If they were to trade him, MN would not be looking for anything but a potential #1C(i.e. young C prospect or high draft pick that could net the same). They cannot take back salary, so players like PLD are not an option. I can think of multiple teams that would really like to have Wallstedt, but not all of them have the pieces to offer in return.

Goalies in the 1st round are a lot like vehicles and their value drops once you're off the lot.

I'm not sure you'd get that.

As a hab fan I'd be interested, but Beck and 31st isn't what you're looking for, so they're out.

He's never played a game in NHL, how's he considered a #1 goalie?
Why not just play them as a duo in a year's time and sign a veteran backup on 1 yr deal.

Get the dealing from strength here but seems like a wild ask, admittedly don't follow MIN a lot.

I don't see what the point would be? He's probably at least 1 year away from being an NHL regular, and 2-3 away from being a legit starter if his development goes well.

If Gustavsson falters he can take over. If Gus keeps playing well then you have a good problem that can be solved when the time comes.

I think you could maybe pry one of Buffalo's center prospects away considering what they already have at the NHL level, but they also already have Levi and a ton of assets to trade for a more established goalie that is closer to their timeline if they'd like.

Goalies don't have a ton of value in general, unless we're talking a Vasi or Shesterkin type. Even then, their value pales in comparison to a D or C at that same ability level. That's why you usually don't take goalies in the first round. It's just not good value.

He went mid first in 2021 and had a good rookie season. Why would his value be the same as two years ago?
Because a guy who was a mid-1st having good seasons in lower leagues doesn't mean they improve their value. They are expected to have good years in lower leagues. He's not going to return a higher 1st until he shows it in the NHL (and for more than a small handful of games).

Really, or are you just making this up?
No, goalies aren't viewed highly by fans, or even by NHL teams it seems.

Can't imagine you'd get a highly rated centre for a goalie prospect with no NHL experience.

The recent winner probably doesn't drastically hurt goalie value, but wouldn't be surprised if people looked a bit lower at them in terms of needing a high-end goalie.

Ok, and 0% chance Minnesota moves him for the same range pick they got him at.

It wouldn't make sense for Minnesota to move him as he provides net insurance this year, takes over the back up role for the next year or two and then takes over the starting net in year 4. No need to short change yourselves.

If pegging value, maybe if Cooley doesn't sign in Arizona ... Wallstedt+

No reason Cooley won't sign in Arizona
He's there #1 center of the very near future.
That + would have to be ginormous.

They'd never get that kind of value. For the same reason Askarov in NSH won't either.

The last goalie traded for a 1st rder was Schneider, after a couple great seasons in the NHL. And it turned out pretty bad for the receiving team.

Fact is, goalies hold very little value to the acquiring teak unless said goalie has proved that 1- he is NHL starter material and 2- is younf enough to follow their core
