It appears he's likely headed to arbitration tomorrow and my gut tells me he either wants to hit UFA as soon as possible or at the very least he's not interested in being a Devil long term.

I'd be very open to moving him for an adequate replacement in the top 6

What is his value?

My walkaway point would be $9.75M AAV on a 8 year deal.

Hopefully we can get him for 6-7.5M but he's worth a ton. Just look at what Tkachuk got - and Bratt is better.
How is Bratt better ? (He is my favorite Devil too btw) Tkachuk has averaged more points than him , is bigger than him , plays.more of a physical game than him & is a pest who can throw off other teams players.

Bratt edges him out in skating and maybe vission/passing ability but that's pretty much it. I love Jesper Bratt and want him to be a Devil for a long time but back to back contract headaches are making me open more open to trading him while we can. Every team passed up on him numerous times till we got lucky and stole him in the 6th round. He also went through some slumps earlier in his career where a call down to the AHL might have been warranted but the team never sent him down there. He has blossomed into a big piece for this team and was supposed to be a big piece to get us back into being a playoff team. This really sucks that he might force his hand out of here and if that's the case I hope other teams have alot of interest in him so we can get a good player back in return.

He just wants a decent wage. 4.1 million is insulting. I think he wants to stay in NJ Fitz just has to give him something reasonable.
They did that for the arbitration case. Word is Fitz offered him along term deal but Bratt wouldn't take it and only wants a short term deal to hit UFA faster to land a big payday.

You seem like a well respected poster on here but this is a little much. I'm not sure what cap projections will be but 9.75 million isn't a team friendly deal. A number like that is only possible because of having Jack and Nico on good deals. We won't be swimming in cap space much longer even with Johnsson , Tatar , Graves and Severson cap hits potentially disappearing after this season.

It's definitely not a team friendly deal, which is why it's my walkaway point.

But yes, I'd rather pay a player like Bratt 9.75M over 8 years than 5M over 2. I realize it won't take that much to resign him, but that's what he's worth to me.

Damn if that’s true then yeah trade him.

I understand you'd prefer to overpay to lock him up long-term vs getting him cheap in the short-term just to have him walk, but there's not a chance he demands anything close to 10M lol.

He's better than Connor and Tkachuk in your world but giving a guy like Bratt what you just suggested should get any gm fired before the paperwork went through.
He's a PPG 24 year old star play driving winger. Think of guys like Panarin, Marner, Gaudreau, Kane, Ehlers. He tilts the ice.

He'd have way better counting stats over his career had he been given the ice time he deserved. He's been an elite 5v5 producer his entire career and makes everyone around him better.

Consider that Kaprizov got 5x9M coming off a less productive season than Bratt just had, and they didn't fire Guerin....

I'm not saying he's going to demand that kind of money.

We’ll see where it all shakes out but the Devils offer is a bit suspect.

Sooo, he’s had one year where he got close to being a PPG player (only 26 goals). You look foolish already trying to place him amongst some of the best stars in the league.

Hey, it’s your salary cap to squander if you want to toss $10M AAV based on that lol.

Arbitration offers have nothing to do with what has been offered on a long-term deal.

Back in the day MTL's arbitration offer for Subban was a bit over 5 million AAV. They ended up signing for 9 million AAV a few days later. It's literally meaningless in regards to long-term negotiations.

I don't want to insult this guy because he posts a lot on the Devils board, but I literally don't know where these numbers are coming from and don't want them to derail the conversation here. The argument on the Devils board is whether Bratt is worth the 8x8 that guys like Fiala, Thomas, and Josh Norris just got.

He isn't in the same universe as any of those players you just listed. Lol Kaprizov won the calder and put up 27 goals in 55 games in his first year in the league. Lets look at Bratts history 13 goals in 74. 8 goals in 51. 16 goals in 60. 7 goals in 46. 26 goals in 76 games. Yeah, sure looks like a player a team wouldn't instantly regret giving over 7.5 long term. Kaprizov literally just outscored him by 21 goals he isn't close to being a game changer like him so including him in your post does nothing for your side of the argument.
