Yeah Freddie is a no brainer to get the first opportunity in the playoffs. I would absolutely be open to rotating in Koochie for occasional home games even if Freddie is playing well though. I’ve never been a fan of deliberately rotating goalies in the playoffs but we just can’t trust his health with a high workload.I had not looked into this, thanks.
Freddie:
H 5-3-0 2.28 / .902
A 8-3-0 1.99 / .922
Kochetkov:
H 18-4-1 2.27 / .909
A 8-11-2 2.91 / .885
Certainly makes a better argument for Andersen, and if Kochetkov is giving Andersen a night off he should do so at home.
I wouldn't say finally he was pretty damn good against the Cats in the ECF. The issue is Bob was betterDear GAWD, let it finally be Freddie’s year not to choke. So mad Kooch picked the absolute worst time to unravel.
Not so sure unless Freddy allows like 5 and loses. If it’s a 2-1 loss I’m not switching to KochetkovI imagine it’ll be a play till you lose type scenario. Andersen goes until the first loss, then kochetkov plays until his first loss, rinse and repeat
Last year it was extremely obvious that Freddie just couldn't handle the workload. Maybe that was just from taking half the season off with a serious medical issue, but I don't think we have much choice but to rotate Koochie in one game out of three or so if we want to avoid last year's Freddie meltdown.Yeah Freddie is a no brainer to get the first opportunity in the playoffs. 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs: Hurricanes vs. Devils series preview
For the second time in three seasons, the Canes and Devils meet in the playoffs. Will the result be different...www.dailyfaceoff.com
Honestly, it's hard to say. We're basically going to have had no time with all the players having been available before the playoffs with injury and rest. The only seemingly 100% line is the Aho line and then most likely the Staal line as you posted or perhaps with Carrier again. After that, just try something and see what chemistry there is. And, of course, there is always the wild card of Brindy making a huge change as I seem to recall he made to a seemingly set line last season heading into the playoffs.Wasn’t sure where to put this but was thinking in the unlikely event that all the forwards are healthy to start game 1 who goes where? Feels like the aho line isn’t going to get messed with and we know Brind’Amour loves the staal line as is so how do the other lines shake out?
Blake aho jarvis
Hall KK Roslovic? This line had some juice earlier in the year
Martinook staal stanky
Carrier janky svechnikov? Seems wrong to put him so low but this fourth line could be a nightmare match up with
I don’t know just spitballing

I think you play the goalie until he loses, then the other one goes until he loses, rinse and repeat.
I think what is likely set in stone are the below and everyone else rotates as Rod sees fit.Id like to see something like this:
Blake Aho Jarvis
Hall KK Stankoven
Martinook Staal Carrier
Svech Janky Roslovic/Robinson
Whoa, don't let PK Subban see this! Carolina might be mid, but New Jersey, even with injuries to Hughes, Hamilton, and Siegenthaler, are most assuredly above mid.

I think this makes the most sense, too. Doubt it happens, but it makes the most sense.I think you stick with what’s worked the entire year. Yes, alternating starts is almost unheard of in the playoffs, but logically, it ensures both goalies remain fresh for their respective games. And because we’ve been doing it all year, there’s no mind games of “Oh, Carolina doesn’t trust X, that’s why they’re switching to Y”. Both goalies know the rotation is part of the process.
Running with (probably) Andersen as the clear #1 just means Andersen will play more games in a row than he has all year and Kochetkov will come into whatever game he DOES start completely cold. Both those things are asking for a disaster.
I think there are some pretty obvious scenarios that would be incredibly likely to pop up at some point that would render a goalie rotation in the playoffs completely moronic. If you were gutsy enough to try it, you'd have to commit to breaking it off in some of those very obvious situtations. I think more likely you just stick with the norm and know you'll be playing both guys some if you go on a long run.
If you don't see the difference between like games 36 and 37 of the regular season and games 6 and 7 of a series, cool. Even being tied 2-2 with one goalie getting blasted in both games and the other being great. Literally a goalie that loses games 1, 3, and 5 while the other wins 2, 4, and 6 and you still start the other guy in game 7? As I said, I don't have any interest in a rotation personally. But if you did, you have to be able to stop it at a certain point.Even this year, when a goalie is running hot or is coming off a shutout, we've stuck with the rotation. So I couldn't see a situation where they'd break off from that.
