Pre-Game Talk: Jerks vs Jersey (First Round Matchup)

I don’t think we’re any worse this postseason than we were when we beat them in 5 a couple years ago. They would be better this year than that year if Hughes was healthy but he’s not. The Devils certainly can win this series but the smart money is on the Canes. Especially having home ice. Devils don’t exactly have the formula for beating us in the postseason in Raleigh — elite goaltending/special teams.

In theory this should be an easy victory for our boys. However, our boys have a tendency to make things very difficult.

Our PP/goaltending need to be sharp. They also need to win road games because holy hell winning road playoff games for this team is like replacing a cockroaches blood with root beer (Dale Gribble reference)

Our road record is 16-19-3 this year. We're gonna get crushed on the road this playoffs.
It's hard to say. The team that we hopefully finally have available isn't the same team we will have had for that entire record. And the slate is suddenly wiped clean.

It's also interesting to take a look at the splits of all our goalies on the road. Freddie has been good and our record has been good. You have the two minor league goalies that were awful on the road and Kochetkov who's been not good on the road. Just another one of those things that makes Freddie still the clear choice and why the looks of the regular season could be deceiving.

Excited to play the Devils again. Always play some of our most exciting games against them for whatever reason.

On another note. If we went back to old playoff format and looking at points %, we'd be the 3 seed in the Eastern Conference and currently slated to play the Senators.

I had not looked into this, thanks.

Freddie:
H 5-3-0 2.28 / .902
A 8-3-0 1.99 / .922

Kochetkov:
H 18-4-1 2.27 / .909
A 8-11-2 2.91 / .885

Certainly makes a better argument for Andersen, and if Kochetkov is giving Andersen a night off he should do so at home.
