GDT: JERKS IN THE HEART OF THE ENEMY

I think we’d be better equipped to take on Florida this time. Svech is producing at a Conn Smythe level so far these playoffs, we have more depth scoring than in 2023, and Freddie is at the top of his game.

I also kind of feel the Panthers may be running low on gas come the ECF given how much hockey they’ve played the last three years. Tkachuk is really hurting out there.

Wouldn’t be an easy matchup by any means, but definitely better than 2023, IMO.

Funny how time heals all wounds, but I kinda forgot that in the 2023 playoffs we were so injured that Martinook led the team in points and Jesper Fast led the team in goals. Wow.

Mackenzie MacEachern played in eight playoff games that year, and Pulujarvi appeared in seven. Handling the 112 point Devils in 5 was impressive.

Habs fan coming in peace, Congrats on making the Eastern Conference Final

Carbery with some words on Slavin who is the best defensive defensemen in the league

I have a feeling his career will be the catalyst for the NHL eventually adding a “best defensive defenseman” award separate from the Norris. It should exist and Slavin would’ve deserved it like 5 times by now. So grateful to have the guy on this team and for the NHL undervaluing those types of players so we can have him on such a bargain long term deal.

Something that is likely to be underappreciated is that Carolina winning both of the first two rounds in only 5 games could be hugely beneficial for the team for the rest of the playoffs.

Being more well rested, and less banged up by injuries, and bruises, could really help tilt things in favor of Carolina for this year's deep playoff run. Something we haven't had the luxury of in other years.

Let's hope the Toronto-Florida series goes to game 7, and Winnipeg-Dallas too (since Edmonton already beat Vegas in 5 games). Hopefully all of our opposition become as worn down as possible.

Slavin reminds me of Lidstrom in the defensive zone. As he isn't overly physical but his position is exceptional and his stick is amazing.

Hopefully the jets hold on tonight cause if both series were to end tonight and tomorrow night we’re probably looking at a Tuesday start

Looking at the playoff. stats, The Canes have 2 players that are a minus (-). HALL is a -1 and Ghost is a -5, Nikishin even and everyone else is a plus. 1 or higher, with Slavin being a plus 7 to lead the Canes

And Ghost is explainable because a huge chunk of the damage that he provides is on the PP, which does not count in the +/- stat.

Burns may not be the fastest guy anymore, but the man can seriously still play. He may pull a Bourque if he wins it all this year, but it also totally would not shock me if we see him somewhere in a couple of years breaking the iron man record in a 2nd or bottom-pair role somewhere before he hangs up his skates.

If my research is correct, the Canes have the second most conference finals appearances dating back to 2002, with 6. Tampa leads the way with 8, with SJ/Anaheim/Chicago/NYR/Pittsburgh all having 5. Dallas can also get to 5 if they beat Winnipeg.

A very surprising stat especially given the franchise had nine straight lost seasons from 2010-2018.

The recent and ongoing 7 season contention window under Dundon/Waddell/Tulsky is doing the bulk of the heavy lifting; however, between the years 2000-2009, though we wouldn't have a good team all the time, when we did, it was magical.
