Player Discussion Jeremy Swayman

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

I'll take a bow.

Clearly Bruins should have let Sway holdout and gone into the season with Korpisalo and Bussi. But I don't remember any advocates for that scenario at the time.
Felger and mazz were pretty strong advocates for it. I personally wanted them to make him hold out and treat him like krug. 2-3 year bridge deals until free agency then let him walk.

I don’t bother checking history of what I said or others. This is an emotional place. We all post in the heat of the moment in a reactionary manor.
My emotional reactive response to this topic is lets see what his play is like next year with a full defence in front of him and a new coaching staff.

There is no way there won’t be changes to the coaching staff. Changes are coming and Swayman has to prove himself all over again. He has the talent. We have all have seen it.

He had his chance this season to prove it.

Sitting out, getting the big contract he didn’t deserve.

He failed.

Entire coaching staff will change. My guess is Swayman will stay. No one wants him, honestly.

He missed camp (stupid and greedy - set the goalie market at sub.900 and over 3.00 GAA). Korpi, more often than not, gives them a chance to win. I'm tired of tank talk. Have some pride in the logo and also remember they'll probably miff the pick anyways. Play Korpi down the stretch and let Swayman sit on the bench and lose his overinflated ego and moxie.

Motivate him to get his crap together and win the starting role next year.

If after a full camp, he still stinks next year,, get rid of him anyway possible.

They can’t get rid of him that contract.

He got his money. He won.

Someone will want him, and you happen to be right put him on waivers, and anyone takes you are rid of contract, if no one takes him send him to Providence, I know will probably have to pay him, but if you are going to be miserable paying him that contract, let Mr. Smug be miserable in Providence. I am sure someone with more knowledge of the rules will pop up tell me I can't do that but so what, at least I feel better about saying it. A buyout is not an option.

Flush out the front office and retain salary on Swayman if you have to. I respect your point. A lot of albatross contracts. Hopefully, he can rebound. However, a team like Detroit might make a gamble on him. And there are teams that simply retain money to hit the cap floor which should be steadily and markedly increasing. There will be options in my opinion.

Contract stinks brother - i completely agree. but explore the options.

Not wrong. It is a fact that I did not remember your posts.

That said, looking back it appears you did advocate for trading Swayman, but not letting him hold out. I will still give you credit, though, for being anti-Sway early on.
Geez thanks, I will sleep better tonight, but I talked about it, maybe you are looking in the wrong places.

Could be.

So that would mean you advocated for both trading Sway and for letting him hold out.

OK.
Bottom line, I was never in favor of giving him 8.2 mil, I just soured on him, and I stated many times he left nothing cap wise to add to this roster. I do not care you the goalie is you still need players in front you, I also do not believe he had proven that he could carry the load, he hadn't done it yet. To many fans got hung up on post season, he was younger than Ullmark. I do not blame him or his agent Sweeney boxed himself in by trading Ullmark, ahead of time, and once again Sweeney miss read the situation.

Both our tenders have played well considering the dumpster fire in front of them! If any team lost their two best D, they would not win many games. Hoping that if Hampus can't play next season, I hope DS has a plan to cover his TOI. Get Marshand back ( or Off-season replacement) , the kids from Providence and a couple of the new guys and the PO are not out of question.

The correct approach with Swayman moving forward is:

1. Work hard over the summer, make up for the loss ground that he didn’t have last year during the holdout. Have an honest conversation about the team shortcomings vs his own. If you’re going to play a diva, show up like it. That said, reassure him and regain trust.
2. Rotate Korpisalo in a little bit more to start the beginning of the year, he hasn’t played enough this year, chasing playoff berth or not. Korpi has been better than the masses would like to admit, and would be better with less buildup between joy rides. Swayman went from split time to 85% which is a bigger percentage than it should have been. He can learn to accept that.
3. Outside the crease: New Coach has a system with a clear message. Defense gets healthy, and moves back towards responsible mobility. Zadorov and Lohrei become more reliable in different but impactful ways. Forward group gains offense minded player(s) that keep the puck on the other side of the rink more often/longer. Fire Leach.
4. Don’t be afraid to bench him two games in a row before the new year if he needs to watch a bit instead of play. He needs to toughen up mentally and emotionally.

5. If play and confidence doesn’t show needed results, trade him at the deadline/before his NMC kicks in **with a clear plan in place be it trade/acquisition of a goalie, or undeniable skill and progress by DePietro**. Tell the media he was addicted to smelling salts and literally cries when he lets in more than 2 goals. What’s worse, losing the guy you thought was going to be your #1, or continuing to sink your windows of opportunity and future by failing to admit it? Deeps should get some looks one way or another in the first couple months. Gotta see what you have there.

There were plenty of things to not like about this year. Unfortunately, the bed has been made with last summers signings, but management can chose to get him in the right track and show the team that there is leadership from above, and the desire to push forward. If he doesn’t hold up his end of the bargain by next February, that puts it all on him and the roster would understand/get a wake up call.

This team is in full tank mode, I’m not putting any stock in Swayman’s performance down the stretch. He’s been pretty terrible all season overall except for a few stretches, hopefully getting a healthy team with a few good players added to the roster in front of him and a full training camp will have him in a better place next year, otherwise it might be a tank for McKenna.

Swayman is the most serious concern for next season.
