As this situation continues to drag on:

Please keep the conversation pertinent to the topic and avoid making it personal.

Debate about the management of the salary cap and the performance of the general manager fits into the context of the conversation, but we’ll avoid dividing fans into camps like “pro-player” and “team apologist”.

Thanks!

The Riddler should be a super star ~ surprised it hasn’t happened.

After seeing the Swayman to KHL I need a few weeks vacation at least till after Topsfield Fair

McAvoy was coming off a bridge and was buying way more UFA years vs Makar. Pastrnak was a pending UFA with Richard Trophy who signed a contract as cap percentage totally inline with stars of that ilk.

You say “pay him like a 25 year old elite starting goalie” and people point to Helly or Saros or Demko or these other guys that signed at 5 or 6 as 25 year old elite starting goalies those don’t count for some reason. Those were obviously on shorter term deals. If Swayman wants 8, it’s just a dicier negotiation because none of the other young elite goalies not named Vasi have Signed a deal like that in 10 years. They all came in at short term and then cashed in later. If you want to argue that 25 year old Swayman is 25 year old Vasi, I’ll get my popcorn.
Those days are done. long time ago with a dead cap. I'll argue a 25 year old Swayman and a 26 year old Rask thank you. No way on earth he should be signing a 4 year deal when all these young forwards and defensemen who have accomplished much less are all cashing lottery tickets. Goalies are now due. Hellebuyck was 6/6plus a long time ago. I'll take 8/8+ with the cap going straight up

The part of this story that I don't get at all is if he's the youngest top 5 goalie in the league (I believe he is) and is generally considered a top 3 goalie value asset at 25 and everyone knows you need that to win, where are the freakin' offer sheets? Wouldn't Gross want to drive that up Don's so and so? I am sure he's out there selling! Where are the trade offers? Its not often a guy like Swayman is out there...

On a completely unrelated note, I notice that Ullmark saved 28 of 29 shots in 30 minutes and 20 seconds last night for Ottawa.
As a Sens fan, pretty pathetic game by the rookies (only 1 vet in that game) but Ullmark was great.

Saros, demko, Helly bridge deals aren’t comparable a because those three signed their bridge deals ahead of arbitration hearings. So it’s not a very comparable situation.

But for some reason you keep ignore that extremely important factor.

Yep Again it’s the bruins mismanagement of the cap that has led to this. Guessing Swayman would have been more up for a 4 year extension last summer before the arbitration hearing and stellar first round. Oh and also before they traded their insurance policy

Hellbucyk's 3rd contract being signed 6 years prior - " that's a long time ago! "

Rask's 4th contract being signed 11 years prior - " thank you, good comp! "

He is doing the Jalen Brown thing negotiating for himself - AND - the PA guys coming after him. Not saying right or wrong but one has to wonder if he isn't going to blink first and eventually fire his agent for like Montgomery... Quite a mess but clearly he has a bad taste from arbitration and now based on his public comments is on a bit of a justice tour in his negotations.

Can we all agree that the Topsfield Fair sucks? Canobie is better for rides. Storyland better for little kids. You can go see goats at a million other farms.

f*** the Topsfield Fair.

Swayman has to be willing to sign one, and all indications are he shown no interest in going somewhere else

Let's say if he decides to sign an offer sheet with Anaheim for 8/72. He has to do so with the understanding that he will be forced to spend the rest of his hockey career in hockey hades. Anaheim is a nice place, weather is good, you can golf year round, you can go to Disney everyday, but the team is bad, and few people care. And yes the bruins would be forced to say good luck to him, and take the 4 first round picks in return.

We just disagree how important that is. At that point in their contract cycle an arbitration award is just walking them to UFA. Right now Swayman is faced with making zero dollars. That sounds worse.

I remember the Ducks winning the Cup and being on a long run of winning teams. This coming version is loaded with top end talent. He wouldn't be suffering any time soon in Cali.

The picks and the cap may be the best case scenario...
