This is the issue with female commentators and analysts in ice hockey. It's not the same thing as in most others, where the rules are the same. Women play a completely different sport, non-contact. Even if she has played the game, she doesn't have any perspective of how the game actually gets played in men's games.
Unfortunately, these are just diversity hires. I have yet to hear a female ice hockey commentator who has actually brought something of value. Either it's opinions like these, or some completely obvious and noncommittal stuff, where you wonder why she even is there.
And note, I think that female commentators can work for many other sports. For example, in athletics or skiing, I've found them to be very insightful. Especially good for figure skating, as well. But for ice hockey? They haven't played the same sport as men since the men were like, 11 years old.
If it's true that she has not even played the sport at all, how is she more qualified for the job than some of the alternatives who have actually played it?
