To Buffalo:
John Tavares
3x pairs of bedsheets

To Toronto:
Jeff Skinner
Infinite smart water

Both have NMCs, but Skinner would seemingly be ok with Toronto and Tavares might be tired of being one of the scapegoats. He can create a narrative of redemption, or could just fully embrace non-relevance in Buffalo. Maybe Skinner would pop off in a better offense and wouldn’t require a buyout.

It’s so crazy it just might work. Or I just think it’d be hilarious, maybe both. Thoughts?

Tavares is better than Skinner, and Tavares' bad contract ends 2 years sooner than Skinner's bad contract. Buffalo would need to add a significant plus for this to make any sense

What is Buffalo paying Toronto for those additional years?

1st ?
2x2nds

This implies that Skinner has value. Which he doesn’t, even if Tavares is considered a dump.

If JT is up to waive , they’d even rather eat cap to move him than take a longer dump.

How much retention on Skinner would make more sense for Toronto to make this deal.

I feel like skinner + 11OA for Marner is a closer basis than skinner for Tavares.

And the first one still has a bit of a gap to it.

Possibly, but some people also thought those blankets were pajamas.
Close enough. He’s still wrapped up in the Leafs logo.

Maybe they can ship him off to the Royal Naboo Security Forces?
Maybe after Toronto wins the cup again. I can’t see it happening before Gavin McKenna retries after a long career with the Chicago Blackhawks alongside his cousin Connor Bedard though.

I'm not against it, of course, but the problem is that Skinner has three years left on his contract, and Tavares has one year left.

I would eat $2M to $3 M of Skinner's contract if Tavares resigned for two years at, say, $5 M to $6M. He is exactly what Buffalo needs. The key is Tavares waiving. And he won't. Maybe his uncle could talk to him.
