He doesn’t strike me as someone who cares much about winning. How often do you see a guy who will only accept trades to two cities because they’re close to his family? Seems ti have different priorities.

Sure but at least when he waived for Buffalo they had Eichel, ROR, kane, they had just gotten Dahlin, there was talent there.

I could see why he did it.

It hasn't worked out though

I think Buffalo needs a culture shock trade, take a guy like Cozens, or than 11OA pick, or both and bring in an established piece.

I think they need to do something BIG, shock the dressing room
Unless Adams is moving Dahlin, I am not sure there is much more he can do that will shock that dressing room more than he did when he moved Mitt's at the deadline.

They need their Hyman honestly. The Oilers needed a guy like that, but they had a good defensive center already in RNH. Buffalo needs both those pieces.

I don't think It's that simple for them just like at Toronto, all you hear about is how the group needs to change, and It's probably true.

The Leafs make the playoffs every year and all you hear about is how the Leafs need a change.

Buffalo hasn't even done that in 13 years, if the Leafs who make the playoffs every year need a change

What does that tell you about the Sabres who haven't even done that in 13 years?

They need a culture shock, It's not as simple as finding a gritty top 9 winger.

With all due respect to Mitt I'm not talking about a Mitt level trade.

Skinner has a pretty huge history of having bad years and good years. The Sabres in general had a bad year, no reason to think Skinner won’t rebound and be fine next year. He only has three years left anyways. Let him rebound then if you still want him gone next summer it’ll only be two years left.

To Buffalo: 18th OA
To Chicago: 11th OA, Jeff Skinner (50% retained)

Chicago can then chose to buy him out to get a cheap 25-40 goal scorer. And they get another high draft pick.
Easiest yes imaginable if you're Chicago

I understand where you are coming from and why you would disagree, but if you knew much about the Sabres as a team, you might understand why trading Mitts was about as big of a dressing room shakeup as is possible moving one player. The Sabres young core is very close, and Mittelstadt was right in the center of that social circle off the ice. Interviews with the players have them always taking about how they go to his place to hang out. Moving Mitts shook things up off ice a lot more than moving Thompson or Cozens would have, imo. Not as much as it would have changed the on ice team, but in terms of that dressing room, it was a pretty big deal.

Edit *he was also their leading scorer at the time he was dealt*

Skinner would lose a third of his potential remaining salary, and due to his rough second half last season, he might not be in high demand and have to sign a one year close to league minimum "prove it" deal. The stigma of a buyout for a player Skinner's age Could seriously hurt his market value.

I don't think he cares.

I never said they just need a gritty top 9 winger. I said they need a shutdown line. I think it is that simple. They have a lot of talent, just not elite talent. There's no McDavid, Draisaitl, Tkachuk or Barkov there. They have a lot of guys who are top 6. They need a line similar to Coleman, Backlund and Mangiapane who can basically neutralize top skill lines. Depth scoring, elite scoring and good pros.

4.5M is a lot for a guy who might score 30 pts any given season.

Maybe if you throw him on a line with Jost and Olafsson . But the guy will be 25-35 goal scorer for the remainder of his contract.

Will fix everything
Or 82 in 79 games like he did….just last year.
His seasons in Buffalo under this contract:

23, 14, 63, 82, 46 pts

He was removed from the top line last year and the new coach and him simply aren’t going to work.

Skinner needs a very specific set of circumstances to be successful. He isn’t going to
Get those in Buffalo this year.

If you are going to retain 50% then why not just buy him out?

Tage had a brutal year, Skinner followed as did much of the team. The coach did the best he could with what he had. Assuming he’s never going to play Skinner higher in the lineup again based on how the second half of a bad season went seems a little premature.

Skinner has had 40 once, 30+ twice including the past two previous seasons and even in this crap year still had 24. He was a ppg last year, and he’s still a solid 30 goal 60 pt guy. Your coach is an idiot if he doesn’t put Skinner in a place to score some goals.

You’ve got plenty of cap space this summer to sign everyone anyways, probably plus a good player. Skinner isn’t hurting you this summer.

The only reason i could see Skinner bothering to waive his NMC for for Chicago, is if he's really worried that Buffalo might actually make the playoffs next year, and put his record-setting streak in jeopardy.

Skinner vacillating wildly season to season has been his entire career. He dropped 36 pts in one season under the same coach just this last year. He went from 33 goals in 71 games to 18 goals in 77 games in Carolina.

You don't know which Skinner you are going to get year to year.

And he was on a real offensively inept Hurricane team where the leading scorer on team had 54 points

And the team sucked overall accumulating 71 points on the season.
