Petry has 0 points, and -1 in 11 games with Habs.
Who cares? Smith-Pelly has 1 point in 15 games and we traded better assets for him.

Petry has been solid, despite a lack of production. In fact, he's been one of our better players (last night not included.. although I don't think he was as poor as the stats look).

-4 last night, every other game he seems to be in - Tinordi can do that.
I don't even know what this means.. but Tinordi sucks right now.

I wouldn't even play him over Emelin and he's not good.

for the time being i'd just be happy to have this core for next season:

Markov - Subban
Beaulieu - Petry
Tinordi - Gilbert/Pateryn

Tinordi is the only wildcard, we'll have to see how he does next season. If we do manage to resign Petry then Emelin is as good as gone imo. He makes too much money for what he brings to the table.
We need someone to play with Pateryn. He's solid back there and a perfect third pairing defenseman. Gilbert isn't great on his off-side (although he's not much better on his true side) and I don't think Tinordi will play well with Pateryn, at least not for a year or two.

I'd keep Gilbert for insurance, but sign a LD to play with Pateryn.

Petry is okay! I like him as a player but -4 won t slide no excuses. As for Tinordi he should already be on this team guys like that win you championship. He should be paired with Subban right now. First pass whatever 6"7 clear the front of the net chip of the boards until the game starts to slow down. Habs don t score anyways!!

Tinordi paired with Subban?

What the serious ****?

It's questionable that Tinordi should even be in the NHL.

What's happened to Emelin?
People know my feelings on him.

I'd be moving him for whatever I could.

I will say it again the Habs are a better team with Beaulieu in the top 4. In fact the Beaulieu Gonchar tandem was solid from game one.
Petry has been nothing to write home about. None of Bergevin's deadline deals have improved this team. Depth wise...yes, results wise...no

Me neither. Got burned a couple of times after making what should have been safe plays except our forwards had already blown the zone instead of being in position to help move the puck out. Gallagher blew the zone leaving Plekanec to fight (and lose) a 2-on-1 when they pinched at our blueline on one goal, and Max/DD totally abandoned the boards/point on one or two occasions when Petry had to rim the puck around Anaheim's forecheck, too.

Those resulted in minuses, thanks to poor team play, but otherwise he moved the puck well (on the PP, too, when he had the chance), and got to the puck first or separated men from the puck in our zone when he had to. I still think he's worth keeping, if the price is right.

Petry is doing fine, but MB waits too long to strike where we need. It seems that the cup chances are all in Carey's hands and Petry could help for this. Still Think that Jagr could give him a break

Petry has played extremely good hockey since coming over from Edmonton, him & DD should try to learn how to share the puck better though!:laugh::laugh:

Don't know, Petry seems to have the 'Bret Hedican Syndrome', does everything well, in fact, has everything to be a great player, but has a hard time putting up points.

Still love him, but more than 5M$/year would be foolish. (even then 5M$ seems a lot...)
Agreed. He has a lot of good parts, but somehow the whole doesn't seem to be the sum of those parts. That said, he's still a fine #4 d-man, I think. But indeed, there's only so much of a premium you pay to lock him down. $5M-ish seems like a reasonable open market guess, but I think there's a pretty sizeable UFA-premium markup in that. He can get it. But as much as I'd like to see the Habs keep him, I won't be disappointed if it's another team paying that premium instead.

In a really ideal world, maybe he will have enjoyed his time in the city so much, and be so enchanted by playing on a team that expects to win some games after his years on the outside in Edmonton, that he overlooks the UFA jackpot to some extent in order to stay here. In that scenario, if we could shave him down below $5M a bit, it would start to look like more of a reasonable price. Wishful thinking.

Bergevin will know how much the Habs need Petry by the end of the playoffs, if they win Petry will have earned the $5 mil a year.

I think the fact that Peff Jeetry has no points says a lot about the team. Same with Nate Beaulieu.
There is this. Petry and Beaulieu bring great mobility back there... our present gameplan doesn't really take full advantage of that, at least not across the whole ice surface, but if you have those players locked up, then any evolution in the style is something that can be supported from within.

Petry has been really solid. Makes very few mistakes, he's fast, has a good breakout pass.

He's not a goal scorer or a set-up guy but he's a great fit for our transitional game. The habs, despite all their weaknesses, are one of the best transition teams in the league. We'll go from scrambling in our zone to a 1-1 or 2-1 in a split second, and that's because our defencemen are good at making the first pass out of the zone.

Petry fits this mold really well, and on top of that, he's been really solid defensively.

I would re-sign him at 5x4M right now if we could.

Petry was a decent offensive D in the NCAA, never a goal scorer but he led his team in scoring for defensemen and was among the top scorers overall on his team in his Senior year at Michigan St. I think he can bring a solid two way game, it will be interesting to see what happens, if he can be re-signed or not as we need him but who knows if he will want to stay for the right price. I would be surprised if he was willing to take 4M over 5 years, but we'll see at some point.
